On March 24, 1975, Quang Ngai town was completely liberated. In the early days, Quang Ngai town faced countless difficulties due to the severe consequences of the war; the lives of the people were lacking in many aspects. Amidst these difficulties and challenges, the Party Committee, government, and people of Quang Ngai town united and were determined to maintain political stability, social order and security, ensure national defense and security, and strive to work hard, boost production, and build their homeland.

The glorious chronicle of the Provincial Party Committee is steeped in the blood of loyal cadres and Party members throughout the ages. Therefore, when peace was restored, as the political, economic , cultural, and social center of the province, the Party Committee, government, and people of Quang Ngai town focused their efforts on healing the wounds of war and developing the town.

Upholding the responsibility of setting an example, Party members strived and pioneered in carrying out their duties. At that time, implementing the policy of self-sufficiency in food supply of the Zone 5 Party Committee, the Quang Ngai City Party Committee directed Party committees and authorities at all levels to focus on restoring agricultural production, paying attention to irrigation work. Thanks to the timely guidance of the City Party Committee and the exemplary actions of Party members, the people enthusiastically contributed their efforts alongside the government to repair 9 drainage dams for 315 hectares of agricultural land; 6.3 km of irrigation canals; 5 waterwheel embankments; 500 wells... As a result, the entire town was able to plant the 1975-1976 winter-spring rice crop. By January 1976, the people of the town had reforested agricultural land that had been barren and bombed during the war with 300 hectares of various vegetables and beans...

In the following years, along with efforts to boost production, the people of the town actively collaborated with the local Party Committee and government to develop the town in many areas. From 1989 to 1990, despite the difficulties in the infrastructure of the education sector, the people contributed their labor and resources to build the No. 2 Inter-agency Kindergarten, repair the 2/9 Nursery and Hoa Hong Nursery, and build seven new classrooms for primary and secondary education. During the period 1996-2000, to accelerate urban infrastructure development, the Quang Ngai Town Party Committee issued Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU on rural and neighborhood transportation, paving sidewalks along roads; upgrading and multi-story schools; upgrading, renovating, and building new office buildings for state agencies; reorganizing and strengthening the construction management staff; and regularly monitoring and gradually resolving obstacles in basic construction. To ensure the resolution was quickly implemented, pioneering party members donated land for road construction. The movement of contributing labor and land to expand and upgrade transportation routes quickly spread among the people. As a result, the transportation system in the town at that time gradually improved, and the urban landscape flourished.

Recalling the difficult times, former Deputy Secretary of the Town Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai Town, Do Duc, reminisced that in the years after liberation, the people of the town worked hard to heal the wounds of war. At that time, the town's main economy was still agriculture, while there was a large area of barren land. Therefore, the Party Committee, the government, and the people of the town spent a long time reclaiming and restoring agricultural production. Only then did they consider developing industry, trade, and services to gradually reduce the proportion of labor in the agricultural sector and invest in urban infrastructure. The journey from town to city started from a very low point, especially in terms of urban infrastructure.

In 1986, the main roads of Quang Ngai town were officially equipped with streetlights. From 1991 to 1995, important traffic routes in the town, such as the eastern bypass, Hung Vuong road, and several inner-city roads, were paved with asphalt or crushed stone. From 1996 to 2000, existing main roads began to be asphalted; five important intersections were expanded and upgraded. Bui Thi Xuan road was basically completed; the Thanh Co - Nui But road axis was asphalted; and the roads along the Tra Khuc river embankment and Nghia Dung embankment received investment. The strong investment in the urban transportation network during this period created momentum for Quang Ngai town to promote economic and social development, giving new life to the development of a city rising from hardship.

“Upgrading the town at a time when the local economy and society were still facing many difficulties, the town government received tremendous support from the people. To achieve targets in transportation infrastructure, education, health care, etc., the people at that time voluntarily donated land to the State to build roads, schools, and health stations. Thanks to that collective effort and unity, Quang Ngai town was able to rise to become a city in 2005,” Mr. Do Duc affirmed.

The year 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the construction and development of Quang Ngai City. From a type III urban area, Quang Ngai City has now achieved approximately 85/100 points of the criteria for a type II urban area and over 62/100 points of the criteria for a type I urban area. The urbanization rate has reached approximately 51%.
Quang Ngai City strives to become a riverside, coastal city by 2030 – one of the developing urban areas in the central coastal region. To realize this aspiration, Quang Ngai City has made thorough preparations for many years, including a landmark decision: Resolution No. 123/NQ-CP dated December 12, 2013, of the Government on adjusting the administrative boundaries of Son Tinh and Tu Nghia districts to expand the administrative boundaries of Quang Ngai City and establish Truong Quang Trong ward within Quang Ngai City.

More than 10 years have passed since the expansion of its administrative boundaries to the northeast, and Quang Ngai City has effectively utilized this advantage to create room for development. Many projects, such as the Co Luu Bridge, An Phu Bridge, Thach Bich Bridge, and the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa roads, have received significant investment from the province and city, becoming driving forces and creating momentum for the city's urban development towards the east and along both sides of the Tra Khuc River. Quang Ngai City has formed an urban, tourism, and service development axis along the river and coast, with many highlights such as the Thien Ma spiritual and cultural area, featuring Minh Duc Pagoda; the Tinh Khe mangrove forest tourist destination; and Nghia Ha flower village, attracting tens of thousands of visitors annually. This has created job opportunities and career changes for people in the surrounding communes.

According to Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai City, Tra Thanh Danh, Quang Ngai City is focusing on mobilizing and effectively utilizing resources to invest in the development of a synchronous urban infrastructure. This includes focusing on urban infrastructure along rivers and coastlines, creating a solid foundation for the locality to soon complete the criteria of a type II urban area and achieve some criteria of a type I urban area.

Putting the people first and using the quality of life of the people as a measure of action, Quang Ngai City is focusing on reviewing economic and social indicators and implementing leadership and guidance solutions to achieve the set goals. Specifically, the urbanization rate must increase by 9.2% (from 50.8% in 2024 to 60% by the end of 2025). The economic growth rate must reach 7.75%. Along with that, the rate of collection and treatment of solid household waste in urban areas must reach 98%, and in rural areas 80%; the percentage of the population with access to clean water must reach 90% for wards and 50% for communes... At the same time, the city is focusing on promoting digital transformation and administrative reform; improving the quality and efficiency of work to better serve the people.

Always relying on the people to build and strengthen the Party, Quang Ngai City continues to implement comprehensive solutions to innovate the leadership methods of Party committees and the government; consolidate and build grassroots Party organizations and improve the quality of Party members. One of the key solutions is to promptly lead and direct the resolution of pressing and prominent issues, those of concern to the people, especially those related to compensation and land clearance for projects; environmental pollution, urban order, etc.
