Hai Ninh fishing village is located at the end of Tra Bong river, where it flows into Sa Can estuary. Thanks to Ong and Ba islands protecting against wind and waves, the inside of the estuary is always peaceful and calm, becoming a place for fishermen to anchor their boats.
For thousands of years, people in fishing villages have lived off the sea. In times of fatigue, difficulty or danger at sea, fishermen still hold the oars and the steering wheel firmly. Since when, it is unclear, daily labor activities have been incorporated into songs and rowing rhythms. From there, a unique art form of singing ba trao was formed.

The performance of the rowing performance depends largely on the role of the chief. In the role of the chief, Mr. Nguyen Tan Sam does not remember how many village festivals he has participated in. Learning from his father, then learning from his fellow rowers of the same age, and gaining experience from festivals and competitions in and outside the province, Mr. Sam can now improvise anytime, anywhere.

However, Mr. Sam and the members of the Binh Thanh Folk Art Club always have a concern. Maintaining traditional culture is a big challenge. Young people are not passionate, the older generation is gradually disappearing. Currently, the excellent artisan Vu Huy Binh is over 70 years old, and Mr. Sam is about to turn 60.
Finding successors to continue the tradition is a problem without a clear solution. In recent years, Mr. Huy and Mr. Sam often gather young people in the village to teach them how to dance and sing Ba Trao.

Mr. Sam's concern is how to continue the tradition of his fathers. He must keep the passion for the art of rowing from generation to generation, so that the coastal folk songs will last forever with the culture of the nation. That seems to be not only his concern, but also the story of preserving intangible cultural forms in folklore that are increasingly lacking followers.
