Mr. Do Van Muoi - Honorary Consul of Estonia in Ho Chi Minh City
Honorary Consul of Estonia in Ho Chi Minh City Do Van Muoi made the above comment during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's first official visit to the Nordic country of Estonia from June 5-7, 2025.
Mr. Muoi hopes that the visit will open up many opportunities to promote cooperation in the fields of economy , education, technology and culture between Vietnam and Estonia. In the context of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) taking effect from 2020, the visit demonstrates the importance of the leaders of both sides to enhancing substantive cooperation.
Mr. Do Van Muoi said that Estonia has a favorable geographical location, bordering Finland, Sweden and Norway across the Baltic Sea, and is a strategic gateway to the Northern European market. With a modern retail system and competitive costs, Estonia can be an effective transit point for Vietnamese goods, especially consumer goods, agricultural products and textiles, to penetrate deeper into this region.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, relations between Vietnam and Estonia have seen positive developments. In particular, two-way trade turnover has recorded a steady growth trend, with a total turnover of over 70 million USD in 2024. Vietnam exports key products to Estonia such as electronic equipment, wood products and textiles. Estonia exports organic chemicals, machinery and equipment and information technology solutions to Vietnam.
In particular, the official visit of Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang to Estonia in May 2025 contributed to deepening the bilateral relationship. The two sides agreed to promote regular dialogue and enhance cooperation in priority areas such as digital transformation, education, innovation, cybersecurity and sustainable development.
In addition, prestigious universities such as Tartu University and Tallinn University in Estonia have strengths in information technology and digital training, opening up many opportunities for cooperation in the fields of education, digital human resource training, and scientific research - innovation.
In addition, Estonia is a global pioneer in building digital government and applying digital technology in all areas of life and public administration. From administrative procedures, e-commerce to notarization, everything is digitalized, creating maximum convenience for citizens and businesses. Estonia's "e-Residency" initiative has brought about an innovative governance model, allowing global citizens to establish and operate businesses in Estonia without having to be physically present. This model is very suitable for Vietnam's national digital transformation orientation and is an area with great potential for the two sides to promote cooperation in the coming time.
The Honorary Consul of Estonia in Ho Chi Minh City recommended that in the coming time, the two countries should continue to increase the exchange of high-level delegations and establish a regular dialogue mechanism between relevant ministries and branches. At the same time, he also proposed to promote the active participation of trade promotion organizations, business associations and training institutions in bilateral cooperation programs.
"Vietnam can see Estonia as a strategic partner and a gateway to the Nordic market for key commodities such as agricultural products, consumer goods and technology products. Establishing specific cooperation programs in the fields of digitalization, creative startups and education will be a sustainable foundation for the long-term relationship between the two countries," Mr. Muoi emphasized./.
