EVNCPC mobilizes all forces to overcome power problems caused by floods

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of October 29, in the face of complicated developments of heavy rain and widespread flooding in the Central region, the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC) held an urgent meeting to assess the impact and direct the response, troubleshooting of power incidents, and safe power supply restoration for people.

More than 444,000 customers still without power due to floods

According to EVNCPC, as of 12:00 on October 29, the entire Corporation had 492 incidents and layoffs due to flooding, of which 125 had been restored. Currently, 444,335 customers have lost power, accounting for 8.99% of the total number of customers of EVNCPC and 18.82% of customers of the four Power Companies including Da Nang , Hue, Quang Ngai and Quang Tri.

The entire region has 3,749 distribution transformer stations that have stopped operating, accounting for 6.52% of the total number of stations of EVNCPC, with an estimated lost capacity of about 252.6 MW, equivalent to 6.93% of the maximum capacity of the entire Corporation (Pmax = 3,646 MW).

Of which, Da Nang Electricity Company was the most heavily affected unit, with 230,899 customers (26.34%) and 2,045 transformer stations (19.9%) losing power.

Hue Electricity Company still has 180,001 customers (52.4%) and 1,283 transformer stations (42.23%) out of operation.

Quang Ngai Electricity Company has 30,055 customers (4.86%) and 414 transformer stations (6.47%) affected. Meanwhile, Quang Tri Electricity Company has only 240 customers and 7 transformer stations in Trieu Phong commune have not had electricity restored.

Mainly, the power outage areas were caused by the electricity industry proactively cutting off power to ensure the safety of people and electrical equipment in deeply flooded areas with high risk of insecurity.

Mobilize all forces and coordinate to urgently overcome

Speaking at the meeting, EVNCPC General Director Ngo Tan Cu assessed that the heavy rain and flooding situation in recent days has been very complicated, with floods rising quickly, and in some places, water just receded and then rose again, causing many difficulties in restoring power supply.

"EVNCPC determined that the task of restoring power after floods is urgent, but safety must be put first," Mr. Cu emphasized.

EVNCPC General Director requested units to maintain 24/7 on-duty, mobilize maximum human resources, vehicles and materials, proactively handle incidents, and restore power as soon as water recedes and safety conditions are ensured.

"As the water recedes, the electrical system must be checked for safety and power must be restored to customers immediately. Within 3 to 5 days, the units must complete the restoration of the entire power grid after the flood," the EVNCPC General Director directed.

EVNCPC General Director requested affiliated units to mobilize maximum forces, means and materials to restore power to people as quickly as possible.

Mr. Ngo Tan Cu assigned the units to strengthen the propaganda of electrical safety among the people, coordinate with local authorities, police, and army in accessing deeply flooded areas, supporting people and ensuring the safety corridor of the power grid, and safety for officers and employees performing tasks at the scene.

EVNCPC's professional departments were requested to urgently distribute spare materials such as transformers, meters, wires, switching equipment... to heavily damaged units, especially Hue and Da Nang, to proactively restore the system as soon as the water recedes.

"EVNCPC mobilizes maximum forces, means and materials to restore power as quickly as possible for people and essential infrastructure, but absolutely does not trade safety for progress. The entire system must work urgently and responsibly to soon restore power, stabilize life and production for the people of the Central region," Mr. Ngo Tan Cu affirmed.

EVNCPC recommends electrical safety during storms and floods

EVNCPC recommends that people proactively prevent electrical accidents during storms and floods:

  • Unplug electrical equipment and separate the antenna cable from the TV to avoid lightning strikes.
  • Turn off the circuit breaker when water floods the house, move electrical equipment to a higher place.
  • Do not touch electric wires, electric poles, electrical cabinets or wet areas with electric leakage.
  • Never turn on the electricity when the water has not drained completely.
  • When you discover a broken wire, a leaning pole or a dangerous area, do not approach and immediately notify the local electricity authority or Call Center 1900 1909 for support.
