In his speech, Warsh declared that he would lead the Fed toward "reform," learning from both past successes and mistakes, while maintaining clear standards of integrity and performance.
He emphasized that monetary policymakers need to pursue their goals with "wisdom, clarity, independence, and determination," and suggested that inflation could fall, growth could be stronger, and real incomes for Americans could improve if the Fed operates effectively.
At the ceremony, President Trump affirmed that he wanted the Fed under President Warsh to remain independent, but at the same time expressed his desire for the US economy to continue to "boom."
Mr. Warsh's swearing-in ceremony was attended by Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh. This was a rare occasion for a Fed chairman to be sworn in at the White House, the last being under former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan in 1987.
