FIFA accused of physically abusing players for the 'Super World Cup' tournament.

"The FIFA Council's decision to plan a new Club World Cup from 2025 with 32 clubs competing from June 15 to July 13, 2025, without taking further measures to protect the players' workloads, demonstrates a lack of concern for their mental and physical health. This also disregards the personal and family lives of the players," FIFPro announced in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica .

The new Club World Cup, starting in 2025, will feature 32 clubs from across the continents.

"Extending the playing season will reduce the rest and recovery time for players immediately after the 2024-2025 season. It will also further disrupt the national labor market and alter the balance between domestic and international leagues. Players will have to play for up to 11 months during the season, leaving them with very little opportunity for adequate rest before the next season," FIFPro shared.

According to FIFPro: "The players were never asked about the decision to increase the number of matches they would play this season. FIFA made the decision without consulting the most important people, which are the players."

According to La Repubblica , AC Milan and Lazio coaches Stefano Pioli and Maurizio Sarri have issued statements supporting FIFPro's declaration. Coach Sarri has consistently spoken out about the increasing number of matches players have to play, arguing that this not only leads to overload and injuries but also reduces the quality of their performances.

Manchester City will play their 2023 Club World Cup semi-final match against Urawa Reds in Saudi Arabia at 1:00 AM on December 20th. A win would see them face Fluminense in the final.

On December 18th, FIFA officially announced the new version of the Club World Cup (replacing the old version which ended after 2023), which will take place from 2025 with 32 participating clubs, and will be held in the United States from June 15th to July 13th, 2025.

"This is considered a 'super World Cup' at the club level, featuring teams from continental federations, with specific participation slots allocated by FIFA. The tournament will be held every four years, starting in 2025, one year before the World Cup, and will be hosted by the World Cup host nation to ensure proper organization. This tournament will also replace the former Confederations Cup," reported Marca (Spain).
