(CLO) Google is rolling out a new update to its "Find My Device" app, allowing you to locate loved ones and those who have shared their location with you.
This feature was announced in Android's March feature update last week and is now available to many users.
Previously, users could view the locations of friends and family through Google Maps. Now, the Find My Device app on Android can do both: it helps locate lost devices and displays the locations of people who have shared their location with you. The in-app map also shows the locations of people who have shared their location with you via Google Maps on iOS.
In the Android app, you can tap the People tab to see the locations of contacts who are sharing their location with you. Alternatively, you can switch to another tab to see a list of people you're sharing your location with, and customize the sharing time as desired.
Google's new interface now shares many similarities with Apple's Find My app, including a split screen with a map at the top and a list of devices or people at the bottom, depending on whether you're tracking objects or people.
This update makes the Android ecosystem more synchronized, especially useful for users who frequently use location sharing to stay in touch with family and friends.
