Nearly 400 hectares of winter crops are infected with pests and diseases.

According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province has planted nearly 6,300 out of 7,070 hectares of winter corn, reaching almost 90% of the plan. Nearly 4,800 out of 5,788 hectares of green vegetables have been planted, reaching approximately 83% of the plan. However, field inspections have revealed some areas of corn and vegetables infested with pests and diseases.

Farmers in Cap Dan commune, Cam Khe district, are planting pumpkins in the 2024 winter crop season.

Specifically, nearly 390 hectares of winter corn were infected with fall armyworm, of which 320 hectares were mildly infected, and the rest moderately infected. In addition to corn, nearly 10 hectares of green vegetables were mildly infected with green caterpillars and whiteflies.

Immediately after discovering that corn and vegetable crops were infected, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department to instruct the Plant Protection and Crop Production stations to coordinate with local authorities to organize pest and disease control measures to prevent widespread outbreaks and damage to winter crop production.

At the same time, to ensure the winter crop production plan and limit the abandonment of fields and crops, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested districts, cities, and towns to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage farmers to accelerate production progress; select high -economic- value crops for the winter season such as: biomass corn, glutinous corn, sweet corn, potatoes, various types of beans; and cold-loving vegetables and fruits...

In addition, the Plant Cultivation and Protection stations need to regularly inspect the fields to promptly detect and control pests and diseases affecting winter crops. Local authorities should continue to closely monitor the weather situation and be ready to respond to natural disasters according to the "four on-the-spot" principle, minimizing damage in the event of a natural disaster.
