On the afternoon of October 17, Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, said that according to the latest updated data, in the first 9 months of 2025, the total amount of remittances transferred to Ho Chi Minh City reached 7.969 billion USD, an increase of 6.25% over the same period in 2024.
Of which, countries and territories in the Asian region have the highest amount of remittances to Ho Chi Minh City, accounting for 50.4%; followed by America (30.2%), Europe (9%), Oceania (8.4%) and Africa accounting for 2%.
In the first 9 months of 2025, remittances from Africa to Ho Chi Minh City had the highest growth rate, reaching 150.3% over the same period, followed by Europe with an increase of 16.7%, Oceania with an increase of 11.1%, America with an increase of 10.3%, and Asia with a decrease of 2.8%.
Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien said that the fourth quarter of each year is the peak season for remittances because it is near the New Year and Lunar New Year, overseas Vietnamese return home to celebrate the New Year and remittances also go to support their relatives. Therefore, the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 branch, forecasts that the total amount of remittances sent to Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 is likely to be higher than in 2024, at 9.54 billion USD.
