There are many popular books for children published, but the famous books of the past are still of interest to readers. That is the reason for the wave of reprinting of those books...

The manga series "Little Maruko" returns in a new look. |
After a long time waiting for the publishing unit to negotiate copyright, last weekend, fans of the comic book “Maruko-chan” finally “met” their “childhood friend”. From early morning, readers filled the hall of Kim Dong Publishing House to interact with the production team of the 2023 edition of “Maruko-chan” as well as participate in games, line up to get a number in the hope of “earning” a badge or a few postcards with a picture of their close friend. It is worth mentioning that although it was a children’s comic book, the majority of the people in the hall were adult readers.
Mr. Dang Cao Cuong, Head of Comic Book Editorial Board, Kim Dong Publishing House, shared: “Along with “Doraemon”, “Maruko-chan” is the series that brought me to my current job. It’s great to finally see “her” appear with all the best things! The people who participated in making the series in Vietnam are also the ones who read “Maruko-chan” since childhood, so we can’t help but be moved and proud to make the series.”
The series “Little Maruko” by the late artist Momoko Sakura has been known to Vietnamese readers for nearly 3 decades. Based on her own childhood memories, the author created a series of stories revolving around the life at home and at school of the cute girl Maruko with countless humorous but equally touching moments about family and friends. Not a perfect girl, but it is Maruko who is often late for school, hates doing homework, is timid, gullible, gluttonous but innocent, kind, and draws very beautifully that makes the series close to readers.
“Maruko the Little One” has become a part of the childhood of many readers of the 8x and 9x generations. Food blogger Phan Anh Esheep confided that she also loves to eat, loves to learn about food like Maruko and is now attached to cuisine ; she also dreamed that when she grew up, she would have two cute daughters like the two Maruko sisters in the story. She loved Maruko so much that when she was sick as a child, “just eating Maruko the Little One would cure the sickness”.
For Vietnamese young readers in the 1990s, like Phan Anh Esheep, it was a brilliant period marking the appearance of many "legendary" story characters such as the robot cat Doraemon, the famous detective Conan, the kid Maruko, the super naughty Teppi, Son Goku, Tsubasa, the four monsters TKKG, or the group of close friends Quy Rom - Hanh - Long in the series "Kaleidoscope"... If more than two decades have passed, the series about Conan continues to be composed and continues to "suck" money from fans, then other series have been reprinted one after another to ensure they are true to the original. Therefore, the Japanese comic will be read from right to left to ensure the authenticity of the images, the names of the characters will also change, such as Doraemon, Shizuka, Jaian, Suneo, Maruko, Son Goku, Tsubasa,... instead of being Vietnamized as Doraemon, Xuka, Chaien, Xeko, Maruko, Son Gô Ku, Subasa... like before.
In particular, readers seem to be able to relive their childhood through the series of books that have been reprinted exactly as they were printed in the 1990s. For example, the series “Kaleidoscope”, although it has been reprinted many times, the purple cover version still “stirred the hearts” of many readers who are now adults. With the books in the Golden Bookcase, a “pocket version” has now been released exactly as it was published in 1995. Childhood cannot be returned but can be re-encountered, readers seek out these reprinted series of books because they not only want to re-encounter their childhood but also want to pass on and connect their children with good series of books and close friends and characters.
Recently, to welcome “Maruko-chan” to Vietnam, Kim Dong Publishing House organized a contest “Gifts for family” for readers to freely create drawings, postcards, and videos inspired by the characters in “Maruko-chan”. Participating in the contest, many readers expressed that they were “impressed with the simple but extremely lovely drawings, incorporating many meaningful humanistic lessons in the series”, and “the Maruko family has given me both laughter and tears of happiness”...
