Urgent search underway for 73 missing people.

Lao Cai province is focusing its efforts on search and rescue operations and disaster relief in affected areas. Particularly in Bao Yen district, the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee are directly supervising search and rescue efforts following the exceptionally severe flash flood and landslide that occurred at 6:00 AM on September 10th in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune.

According to the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, as of 9:00 AM on September 11th, Lang Nu village has 167 households/760 people.

The landslide area has 37 households/154 people and 4 people from other places, including 3 people over 70 years old, 18 children under 6 years old, and 14 children under 14 years old.

Following a review, authorities have so far confirmed 22 fatalities and 17 injured people who are receiving treatment. Currently, authorities are still urgently searching for 73 missing people. 46 people have been confirmed safe.

Lao Cai Provincial Party Secretary Dang Xuan Phong and Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Chairman Trinh Xuan Truong are directly supervising disaster relief and search and rescue efforts.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province has directed Bao Yen district to establish a forward command post in the area affected by the flash flood to promptly direct the work of khắc phục hậu quả (remedying the consequences), search and rescue.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong also requested the district to identify and clarify the topography and hydrology of the area where flash floods and landslides occurred, and to compile detailed statistics on the damage so that search and rescue efforts can be effective; at the same time, attention must be paid to ensuring the safety of the forces involved.

The district needs to urgently direct units to deploy vehicles and personnel to overcome traffic disruptions and ensure communication so that rescue and relief efforts can proceed smoothly. The 316th Division of Military Region 2 has sent 200 soldiers to support search and rescue operations.

In addition, 80 mobile police officers from the Mobile Police Command in Lao Cai participated in disaster relief and search and rescue efforts; 200 students from Lao Cai College went to the district to help people overcome the natural disaster.

Currently, the Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital and the Lao Cai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital are reinforcing the Bao Yen District General Hospital with 13 medical staff members to assist in treating the victims.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province noted that the forces need to coordinate effectively, carefully plan the allocation of personnel, and deploy forces appropriately.
