Hue Central Hospital held a discharge ceremony for the 7th Thalassemia allogeneic bone marrow transplant and the 45th neuroblastoma transplant.

The seventh allogeneic bone marrow transplant was for baby DQT (29 months old, from Quang Ninh ), who was diagnosed with Thalassemia at 7 months old and has had 12 blood transfusions since then.

After HLA testing, the baby was confirmed to be a complete match with her 10.5-year-old sister, so she received a bone marrow transplant on April 4, 2025. After the transplant, platelets recovered on the 23rd day and granulocytes recovered on the 16th day.

Regarding the 45th autologous stem cell transplant, Hue Central Hospital said that baby D.PN (32 months old, from Lam Dong ), was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma 9 months ago. After receiving autologous stem cell transplant at Hue Central Hospital, platelets and granulocytes recovered on the 30th day.

Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, emphasized that the successful treatment of the seventh allogeneic bone marrow transplant on a patient with congenital hemolytic anemia and beta-thalassemia is a major step forward in the application of allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The children no longer have to depend on daily blood transfusions and iron chelation therapy, and they develop normally like other healthy children. The success of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation at the hospital not only brings hope to children with congenital hemolytic anemia but also opens up treatment prospects for other diseases that require allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, such as bone marrow failure, congenital immunodeficiency, and recurrent cancer.

Doctors performed an autologous stem cell transplant on baby D.PN (32 months old, from Lam Dong), who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

According to Hue Central Hospital, thalassemia is a genetic disease that causes microcytic anemia, seriously affecting the physical and mental development of children. In severe cases, children must rely on regular blood transfusions, causing iron overload in the body, causing iron accumulation in the body's organs, leading to many difficulties in life.

Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation is considered the optimal treatment method, providing the opportunity for complete recovery for children, helping them to live healthy lives without blood transfusions.
