* On January 31st, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Directive No. 12/CD-TTg of the Prime Minister, aimed at strengthening the prevention and strict handling of cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of animals, animal products, livestock breeds, and aquatic products across the border into Vietnam.
The official dispatch points out that the smuggling and illegal transportation of cattle, pigs, poultry, and lobster larvae across the border into Vietnam has become increasingly complex recently. In particular, the southern provinces bordering Cambodia and Laos are especially sensitive areas with a high risk of infection and spread of dangerous diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, African swine fever, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), highly pathogenic avian influenza, and other infectious diseases. This could endanger the domestic livestock industry and the health of the people.
The Prime Minister has requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities, ministers, and the Head of the National Steering Committee for Combating Smuggling, Commercial Fraud, and Counterfeit Goods (National Steering Committee 389) to continue directing and seriously implementing the Prime Minister's directives.
In particular, measures to prevent the smuggling and illegal transportation of animals and animal products need to be strictly controlled. At the same time, sustainable livestock farming needs to be developed and food supply ensured.
Furthermore, it is necessary to rectify and address negative behaviors related to the production, import, and customs clearance of goods at border and land checkpoints. At the same time, it is crucial to focus on preventing and strictly punishing cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of cattle, pigs, poultry, and lobster larvae across the border into Vietnam.
