In recent days, cashew farmers have been taking advantage of the opportunity to "pick up" the last cashew nuts of the season. Normally, at this time of year, very few people go to the cashew gardens to pick up the remaining cashew nuts at the end of the season. However, this year, the price of cashew nuts has doubled, from 23,000 - 25,000 VND/kg at the beginning of the season to 55,000 VND/kg, so many people are "sorry" and take advantage of the opportunity to pick up the nuts to earn money to go to the market. As for pepper and coffee, the price has also increased "dizzily". Last year's pepper at the end of the season was only 55,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, but at the beginning of this year it was 80,000 VND/kg, then 110,000 VND/kg and now it has reached nearly 170,000 VND/kg. In Binh Thuan, pepper is abundant in Duc Linh and Tanh Linh areas. In previous years, almost every household grew pepper. In 2015, dry pepper reached a peak of 250,000 VND/kg, which helped pepper growers "hit the jackpot" and many households were able to build houses from the income from pepper. However, after that, many pepper gardens were infected with disease and died en masse, plus pepper prices dropped to only 40,000 - 55,000 VND/kg, so many households abandoned their gardens or did not invest properly, so the pepper area decreased significantly. Last year, pepper prices showed signs of increasing again, so many smart pepper farmers invested in restoring the remaining pepper area, so this season they have high income from pepper. The total pepper area in the province is currently estimated at only about 400 hectares, with an average yield of 15 - 16 quintals/ha. Domestic and international market demand has increased in terms of quantity, quality and price, but supply is not enough to meet demand, so experts predict that pepper prices will continue to increase in the coming time and have no end in sight... During the recent drought, many rice fields in Duc Linh, Tanh Linh, Ham Thuan Bac, Tuy Phong lacked water, leading to lower-than-expected yields. In return, rice prices increased (at times reaching 10,000 VND/kg), so rice farmers continued to have a "bumper harvest" after two consecutive crops with high prices...
In June, when heavy rains fall and soak the soil, it is also the time when rubber growers enter the latex tapping season. Unlike the beginning of the 2023 crop, rubber prices fluctuated only at 23 - 24 million VND/ton, causing many rubber farms to not open their mouths, because tapping would result in a loss of capital, only fertilizing the trees sparingly, and only focusing on tapping when the price increased to 28 - 29 million VND/ton. The highest price of rubber latex in 2023 was only 32 - 33 million VND/ton. This year, when the latex tapping season began, traders offered a price of 37 million VND/ton. Now the price has increased to 38 - 38.6 million VND/ton. Explaining the sudden increase in rubber latex prices, an official working in the rubber industry said that due to the high demand in the international market, domestic units have many orders for export: The increase in rubber latex prices is partly due to Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia... replacing rubber trees with other crops such as durian, so the area is narrowed, the output supplied to the market is reduced, leading to more international market orders coming to Vietnam than every year. Mr. Nguyen Binh in La Da, who has a rubber garden of about 9 hectares, said: Many people see that durian is expensive and have eliminated their rubber gardens to grow durian. This is a difficult problem because after 5 years, will the price of durian be the same as it is now or will they have to endure a good harvest and low prices? For my family, rubber trees still have a stable income so we keep them. This year, the high price of early-season latex promises rubber growers a "bumper harvest"...
