Ri6 durian price 'hits rock bottom', Musang King hits new peak

Durian prices suddenly 'cooled down' across the board, Ri6 is only 40,000 VND/kg, the lowest since the beginning of the season. At the same time, a 'queen' durian variety reached a 'huge' price, setting a new record in Dak Lak .

The domestic durian market is witnessing mixed developments. According to a survey of durian prices today, August 16, the price of Ri6 durian is falling sharply, only 40,000 - 42,000 VND/kg for type A. This price is applied in many provinces such as Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc , Tay Ninh, Gia Lai and Dak Lak. This is a record low price in recent times, reflecting the oversupply in the market.

The main reason is that the durian harvest in the Central Highlands is at its peak, causing output to increase by 20%. Heavy rains also reduce the quality of the fruit, creating large inventories in the country.

Thai durian and Musang King prices increase "hotly" again

While Ri6 cooled down, Thai durian and especially Musang King had a breakthrough. In Dak Lak, the price of Thai durian grade A reached 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg. Notably, the premium Musang King durian reached 80,000 VND/kg for grade A, leading the market in price.

In other areas such as Dong Nai , Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Gia Lai, the price of Thai durian grade A also remains high at 75,000 - 77,000 VND/kg. In Lam Dong, the price is somewhat lower, ranging from 70,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.

Dak Lak (highest price):

Thai durian: A: 75,000 - 80,000 VND/kg; B: 55,000 - 60,000 VND/kg; C: 43,000 - 45,000 VND/kg.

Musang King durian: A: 80,000 VND/kg; B: 60,000 VND/kg.

What is the forecast for durian prices at the end of the season?

Despite abundant domestic supply, export prices are still supported by local tightening of standards and stable processing demand. However, risks remain from competition with durian from Thailand and Malaysia and continuously rising input production costs.
