Schools urgently recover after the storm, welcome students back to class soon

Ha Giang 1 ward, Ha Giang 2 ward and Ngoc Duong commune were the epicenters heavily affected by storm No. 10, causing many schools to be damaged, flooded, and facilities to deteriorate. Immediately after the storm, in recent days, schools and local authorities have been urgently mobilizing forces, focusing on overcoming the consequences, quickly stabilizing teaching and learning conditions, and welcoming students back to class.

According to information from Ha Giang 2 ward, there are 15 schools in the area affected by the storm, of which 3 schools were flooded up to the 2nd floor, with heavy damage including: Son Ca Kindergarten, Hoa Mi Kindergarten, Quang Trung Primary School. The storm and flood affected classrooms, the principal's office, the school yard, the stage, and many outdoor decorative works. In addition, the flood caused the collapse of fences, books and teaching equipment were swept away.

Comrade Ha Minh Man, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Giang 2 Ward informed: "Immediately after storm No. 10 passed, the ward mobilized all local forces, coordinated with officials, teachers and parents to urgently clean up mud, collect tables and chairs, and repair damaged items at schools. Up to now, at 12 lightly flooded schools, the repair work has been completed. For 3 schools that were heavily affected, the local government is actively mobilizing regular forces including the police and militia, each with about 30 people, to support the school to quickly repair the damage and welcome students back to school."

Ngoc Duong Commune Militia and Self-Defense Force supports schools to overcome consequences.

In Ha Giang 1 ward, the storm has had a major impact on 5 schools in the area. When the water receded, the school yard was left with only 50-60 cm thick layers of mud, warped doors, damaged electrical systems, many books were swept away and teaching equipment was severely damaged. The most affected was Hoa Sen Kindergarten with about 70% of its facilities affected, all blankets, beds, toys, and educational materials were swept away and damaged by the flood.

After 2 days of actively mobilizing forces and parents, the recovery work at schools has reached about 60%. The school will coordinate with medical facilities to check and evaluate the safety level of the environment and classrooms before welcoming students back.

As for Ngoc Duong commune, there is 1 Ban Bo Kindergarten, Yen Dinh Kindergarten and Ngoc Duong Kindergarten, Ngoc Duong Primary School affected. With the motto "where the water recedes, there is hygiene", the support forces, teachers and parents are focusing on cleaning the school yard, classrooms, clearing mud, clearing sewers, collecting garbage, and cleaning the school grounds. For the Ban Bo Kindergarten whose walls and grounds collapsed, the school will arrange a temporary place to study until repairs are completed, ensuring absolute safety for students.

With the timely and drastic intervention, the work of overcoming the consequences of storm No. 10 at schools is being accelerated. However, after completing the cleaning, schools are facing difficulties because many items such as roofs, electrical systems, desks and chairs, teaching equipment are still severely damaged, requiring time and resources to repair and replace. Therefore, local authorities and the education sector also need to join hands and support to help teachers and students have a safe and stable teaching and learning environment in the long term.
