Steel price today May 30: Recorded increasing trend

On May 30, the domestic market kept its selling price unchanged; Dalian iron ore recovered after the US court stopped US President Donald Trump's tariffs.

Rebar on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for October 2025 delivery rose 2 yuan to 2,977 yuan/t.

Iron ore futures snapped a four-session losing streak, supported by positive market sentiment after a US federal court ruled to block US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The most-traded September iron ore contract on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) rose 1.29 percent to 707 yuan ($98.31) a tonne.

On the Singapore Exchange, the benchmark iron ore price for June (SZZFM5) also recorded an increase of 0.95%, to 97 USD/ton.

Market sentiment improved after a US federal trade court ruled comprehensively that US President Donald Trump had exceeded his authority by imposing broad tariffs on imports from countries with trade surpluses with the US. He had previously imposed 25% tariffs on products such as cars and steel.

This ruling is considered a positive signal for global trade, helping to improve investor confidence and support the recovery of the input material market, according to brokerage firm Galaxy Futures.

However, Galaxy also warned that seasonal steel demand in China has peaked and will continue to weaken in the coming period, especially as the peak construction season in spring is about to give way to the rainy season from June.

On the supply side, although Beijing has announced that it will cut crude steel output this year, many traders and manufacturers believe that this plan will be difficult to implement, especially in the context of steel industry profit margins showing signs of recovery.

While iron ore prices rebounded, other inputs for steel production remained volatile. On the DCE exchange, coking coal and coking coal (DCJcv1) prices fell sharply by 3.98% and 1.62%, respectively. Notably, coking coal prices fell to 757 yuan/ton at one point – the lowest level since June 8, 2021, according to data from LSEG.

“Although coking coal prices were cut twice in May alone, the persistent weak performance of the raw material market could lead to more price adjustments in the future,” Mysteel consultancy said.

In contrast, most steel products on the Shanghai Futures Exchange recorded an upward trend. Rebar prices edged up 0.47%, hot-rolled coil rose about 0.3%, wire rod (SWRcv1) rose 0.9%, while stainless steel was the only commodity to fall 0.39%.

Steel prices in the Central region: Hoa Phat Steel, with CB240 coil steel line, is at 13,840 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel bar is priced at 13,790 VND/kg.

Viet Duc Steel, currently CB240 rolled steel is at 14,050 VND/kg; D10 CB300 ribbed steel is priced at 14,000 VND/kg.
