Experts say that in 2024, despite the fluctuations in the world economy , businesses will be affected by logistics costs, price fluctuations and competition from other producing countries. However, the Vietnamese pepper and spice industry will still achieve impressive growth. In particular, the pepper industry will return to the billion-dollar export group after many years of stagnation.
According to data from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), in 2024, Vietnam's pepper exports are estimated to reach 250,000 tons of pepper, with a turnover value of more than 1.3 billion USD, down 6.1% in volume but up 44.7% in value compared to 2023. This is also the highest export value of the pepper industry since 2017.
However, the Vietnamese pepper industry is currently facing many challenges such as unfavorable weather, high production costs and diseases, while the pepper growing area is decreasing due to the conversion of crop structure.

Based on factors such as high production costs, unfavorable weather, reduced supply, increased consumption demand... pepper traders predict that the pepper market will continue to increase in major localities, especially in areas with high purchasing demand such as Dak Nong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Dak Lak. The increase may range from 500 - 1,500 VND/kg depending on the region, helping domestic pepper prices maintain competitiveness in the international market.
It is forecasted that in 2025, major markets such as China, the US and the EU will continue to increase imports. China imported 9,677 tons of pepper in the first 11 months of 2024, a sharp increase in volume and value. Global pepper prices remain high due to reduced supply and increased demand, especially in the US, where black pepper prices peaked at $8,693/ton in June 2024.
