The USD price on the free market today (January 22) increased rapidly. The free USD price is currently commonly traded around 24,980-25,080 VND/USD (buy - sell).
Thus, compared to the previous session, the free USD price today increased by 180 VND/USD in buying and increased by 200 VND in selling.
Meanwhile, in the official market, the USD price tends to cool down.
The central exchange rate announced by the State Bank on January 22 was 24,031 VND/USD, down 6 VND compared to the listed rate last weekend.
Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade at today's ceiling rate of VND25,233/USD and the floor rate of VND22,829/USD.
The reference buying rate is still maintained by the State Bank of Vietnam at 23,400 VND/USD. The reference selling rate today also decreased by 6 VND, listed at 25,182 VND/USD.
Following the same trend, the USD/VND exchange rate at many commercial banks today also decreased.
Specifically, at 11:30 a.m. on January 22, Vietcombank listed the USD price at 24,330-24,700 VND/USD (buy - sell), down 10 VND/USD in both buying and selling compared to the session at the end of last week (January 19).
At the same time, VietinBank traded USD at 24,285 VND/USD (buy) and 24,705 VND/USD (sell), down 20 VND/USD in both directions compared to the morning of January 19.
Techcombank bought USD at 24,356 VND/USD and sold at 24,697 VND/USD. Compared to the morning of January 19, the USD price at Techcombank this afternoon decreased by 12 VND/USD for buying and 17 VND/USD for selling.
It can be seen that the USD price on the free market is now far higher than the USD price at commercial banks.
Specifically, the buying price is higher at commercial banks by about 700 VND per USD. The selling price of USD on the free market is about 300 VND higher than the selling price of USD at commercial banks.
In the international market, the USD price also tends to decrease. The US Dollar Index (DXY) - measuring the fluctuations of the greenback against 6 major currencies - at 11:56 on January 22, Vietnam time was at 103.18 points, down 0.11% compared to the previous session.
