At the close of trading on August 18th, the buying price of 9999 gold bars at SJC Ho Chi Minh City was 67.05 million VND per tael and the selling price was 67.65 million VND per tael. The listed price for 9999 gold bars at SJC Hanoi was 67.05 million VND per tael for buying and 67.67 million VND per tael for selling.
Doji Hanoi listed gold at 66.95 million VND per tael for buying and 67.7 million VND per tael for selling.
On the global market, the spot gold price on Kitco at 10 PM on August 18th (Vietnam time) was $1,893.6 per ounce. Gold futures were trading at $1,921.7 per ounce.
Gold prices on the world market fell today amid a strengthening US dollar and rising US bond yields. Simultaneously, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) continues to maintain a tight monetary policy. Furthermore, the weakening Chinese economy is also a factor contributing to the decline in gold prices.
On the stock market , the VN-Index fell sharply during the trading session on August 18th. At the close of trading, the VN-Index dropped 55.49 points to 1,177.99 points. The HNX-Index fell 14.01 points to 235.96 points. The UPCoM-Index fell 3.47 points to 89.27 points.
Regarding the dollar exchange rate , the Vietnamese Dong against the US Dollar was listed by the State Bank of Vietnam on August 18th at 23,946 VND/USD, a decrease of 5 VND compared to the previous day.
On August 18th, the US dollar exchange rate at commercial banks dropped sharply, falling below the 24,000 VND mark across the board. The US dollar was traded around 23,600 VND per USD for buying and 23,970 VND per USD for selling.
Globally, the US dollar weakened slightly. The DXY index – which measures the strength of the USD against six major currencies – was at 103.44 points at 10:12 PM on August 18th (Vietnam time), down 0.12% from the previous session.
Today, global oil prices are trending upwards. The increase in oil prices is driven by the risk of supply shortages, coupled with a sharp decline in US oil inventories and rising demand.
In the domestic market, today's gasoline and diesel prices are based on the rates set in the August 11th price adjustment by the inter-ministerial committee of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Accordingly, gasoline and diesel prices have been adjusted upwards.
Specifically, the price of E5 gasoline increased to 22,820 VND per liter. The price of RON95 gasoline increased to 23,990 VND per liter. The price of diesel increased to 22,420 VND per liter. The price of kerosene is 21,880 VND per liter.
