DNVN - In the trading session on November 4, the world gold price tended to increase slightly as the US election is approaching. In addition, investors are also closely following the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) policy meeting scheduled to take place at the end of the week.
Specifically, spot gold prices increased by 0.1% to $2,737.35/ounce, after reaching a historical peak of $2,790.15/ounce on October 31. In contrast, gold futures prices decreased slightly by 0.1%, closing at $2,746.20/ounce.
The US presidential election will officially take place on November 5 local time. According to surveys, the two candidates, Democratic Party's Kamala Harris and Republican Party's Donald Trump, are in a tight race for the White House.
Bart Melek, head of commodity strategy at investment bank TD Securities, said that if Mr. Trump wins the election, gold prices are likely to rise higher, amid concerns about inflation due to the tariff policies that the former President mentioned.
During this trading session, investors also focused on the Fed's interest rate decision after the meeting held from November 6 to 7. Market forecasts suggest that the central bank may cut interest rates by another 0.25 percentage points.
Gold is seen as a safe haven asset during times of economic and political uncertainty, and tends to increase in value when interest rates are low.
UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo said the US election will be the main factor driving gold prices this week. He also said that the Fed's rate cut may not create too much volatility, as the bank sent an easing signal that met market expectations.
Meanwhile, the dollar index fell 0.4% to a two-week low. The weaker dollar makes gold more attractive to investors holding other currencies.
In Vietnam, early in the morning of November 5, Saigon Jewelry Company listed the price of SJC gold at 87.00 - 89.00 million VND/tael for buying and selling transactions.
