Update gold price today August 1, 2025 latest on the world market
World gold price, at 11:00 on August 1, 2025 (Vietnam time), the world spot gold price was at 3,289.6 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 1.1 USD. Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,390 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 109.1 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Compared with the domestic SJC gold bar price on the same day (119.7-121.2 million VND/tael), the SJC gold price is currently about 12.1 million higher than the international gold price.
As of noon on August 1, 2025, the spot gold price on the world market remained stable at $3,287.65/ounce. However, this precious metal has been on a downward trend throughout the week, down 1.5% due to pressure from the strengthening of the US dollar.
The US dollar rose to its highest level since May 29, making gold more expensive for holders of other currencies. Gold has been trading between $3,250 and $3,450 an ounce for about two months and is now trending lower, according to Marex analyst Edward Meir. The main reason is the US Federal Reserve's dovish stance, not cutting interest rates in September. Higher interest rates make gold, a non-yielding asset, less attractive to investors.
Despite pressure from the US dollar, gold prices still have the potential to rise again if trade tensions escalate. President Trump signed an executive order imposing “reciprocal” tariffs ranging from 10% to 41% on imports from dozens of countries. If these countries cannot negotiate tariff reductions, tensions could escalate, sending gold prices higher.
In addition, US inflation data rose in June as import tariffs began to increase the cost of some goods. This could also impact Fed policy and indirectly affect gold prices. The market is now waiting for US employment data due later in the day for more clues on the Fed's interest rate path.
Besides gold, other precious metals also recorded a downward trend during the week. Spot silver fell 0.6% to $36.53 an ounce, platinum fell 0.2% to $1,291.55 an ounce, and palladium was steady at $1,191.95 an ounce. All three metals are on track to end the week with losses.
