Tourists in Hanoi who have just decided to travel now choose less favorable flight times and ticket prices are about 1.4 times higher.
Best Price's air ticket office data on the morning of February 2 shows that the Hanoi - Da Lat round trip from February 12 to February 14 (the 3rd to 5th of Tet) costs about 6 million VND per person, double the normal price and about 1.2 million VND more if booked in early January. Flights with good times (departure time around 12:00, return time around 14:00) are no longer available.
Meanwhile, the round-trip Hanoi - Phu Quoc route from February 12 to 14 has increased 1.4 times - from 4.6 to 6.6 million VND per person, compared to the price booked at the beginning of the month. The flight time is bad when departing early, returning early. The flight at a good time (departing at 10:20 am, returning at 11:10 am) costs about 7.9 million VND round-trip. For the Hanoi - Da Nang route, as of the afternoon of February 2, the round-trip airfare for the period from February 14 to February 18 is about 4 million VND, the flight time is not good. This price has increased by about 600,000 VND compared to when booked in early January.
However, for routes departing from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Da Nang, Best Price ticket office data shows that last-minute booking prices have not changed much compared to bookings made in early January. The Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang route from February 13 to February 16 recorded the highest increase, about 1.1 times, from VND4.2 million to VND4.8 million.
Currently, some airlines only have business class tickets left, and all economy class tickets are sold out. Therefore, customers who book last-minute tickets will be at a disadvantage in terms of price compared to customers who plan their travel in advance.
Regarding the last-minute booking trend, the trend is to book about a week before the flight date, the number of customers booking right before the flight date accounts for about 15%. Customers who book last-minute tickets are likely not purely for tourism purposes, but may be due to business or family reasons.
