Over the past 80 years, the quality of education and training in our country has made great strides, contributing to affirming the prestige and position of Vietnam in the international arena. Looking back on that journey, Professor Huynh Van Chuong - Director of the Department of Quality Management ( Ministry of Education and Training ) emphasized that quality management is an important pillar for the education sector to affirm its position and firmly integrate.
Advanced education continues to affirm its international position
In 2025, Vietnam had 7 student delegations participating in international and regional Olympic Games, achieving comprehensive results: 37/37 contestants won medals, including 13 Gold Medals, 16 Silver Medals and 8 Bronze Medals. All teams won Gold Medals and were in the Top 10 leading countries. Compared to 2024, this year's results increased by 1 Gold Medal.
According to Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Department of Quality Management, this achievement is a recognition of the efforts of students and teachers. “The Department will continue to accompany and advise to create fair and useful scientific playgrounds, helping students develop their abilities and strengths. In the coming time, the national excellent student exam will also be adjusted to expand opportunities, regardless of specialized or non-specialized schools, and at the same time closely follow the current General Education Program,” said Professor Chuong.
PISA results and broad assessment – A step towards integration
In recent times, Vietnam has actively participated in large-scale assessment programs organized by OECD and SEAMEO. The results achieved are all at a high level, contributing to affirming the quality of education and international reputation of Vietnam.
PISA 2022 is considered a prominent example, showing that educational efficiency is superior to investment resources. At the primary level, Vietnam first participated in SEA-PLM in 2019 and led all three areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics among 6 ASEAN countries. In 2024, the preliminary results continued to maintain the leading position, the official results will be announced in the near future.
Vietnam is also conducting large-scale assessments for students in grades 5, 9, and 11 and participating in OECD’s TALIS. “This is an important source of information for making policy recommendations on teaching, testing, and assessment, and at the same time contributing to the development of students’ competencies,” Professor Huynh Van Chuong emphasized. He added that these results confirm that Vietnam is getting closer to the SDG4 sustainable development goal of quality, equitable, and inclusive education.
Higher education – Improving quality, international integration
After nearly a decade of participating in global rankings, up to now, nearly 20 Vietnamese higher education institutions have been recognized in prestigious rankings such as QS and THE. In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics appeared in the THE list for the first time with a position in the Top 501-600 in the world. In the QS list, 9 institutions were ranked in 25 fields of study; 3 fields in the global Top 100 include: Petroleum Engineering (VNU-HCM), Hospitality (Duy Tan University) and Performing Arts (Van Lang University). Notably, some schools have risen to the Top 200 in the world such as Duy Tan University, VNU-Hanoi, VNU-HCM, Ton Duc Thang University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Participation in the ranking is completely voluntary, linked to the results of quality assessment and the motto "real learning, real exams, real quality". Professor Huynh Van Chuong believes that, along with Resolution 57-NQ/TW on science - technology, innovation and Resolution 71-NQ/TW on education - training, Vietnamese higher education will continue to improve its ranking, move towards sustainable quality improvement, and gradually integrate internationally.
