From early morning, many households in the village gathered at the ancestral temple of Phuoc Kieu bronze casting village, dressed in formal attire, to offer incense, flowers, fruits, and other offerings to pay tribute to the village and the founders of the craft.
This is a ceremony commemorating the ancestors of Phuoc Kieu casting village, including Zen Master Khong Lo and Giac Hai; it also serves to remember previous generations and pray for prosperity and success for the villagers.
Phuoc Kieu bronze casting village is one of the oldest surviving traditional craft villages in Quang Nam province. The village was established approximately 400 years ago.
However, currently, only about 10 households in Phuoc Kieu village still practice the craft, mostly consisting of elderly artisans and craftsmen. Very few young people in Phuoc Kieu village are continuing the family tradition.
The main products of Phuoc Kieu craft village include temple gongs, incense burners, candlesticks, and traditional musical instruments, all made entirely by hand, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and the highest level of perfection.
Artisan Duong Ngoc Tien - Director of Dong Phuoc Kieu Trading and Service Company Limited, shared that the village's products have contributed to the cultural space of the Central Highlands' gong culture.
"There were times when we visited the villages and heard the sound of gongs and drums, and we were very happy and proud. We hope the government will have investment projects to preserve the cultural identity of the people of the Central Highlands, which could open up opportunities to revive the Phuoc Kieu craft village and make it flourish as before," Mr. Tien expressed his hope.
