Việt NamViệt Nam21/03/2025

Climate change, global warming, and the risk of energy depletion are major challenges facing the world . This year's Earth Hour campaign, with the message "Green Transition - Green Future," aims to encourage people to save electricity, participate in sustainable energy production activities, increase the use of renewable energy sources, and use energy-efficient products and equipment.

Earth Hour: Spreading the message of Green Transition - Green Future

Tam Nong Power Company staff guide customers on monitoring electricity consumption through the application, contributing to raising awareness of saving and using electricity efficiently.

Earth Hour is an annual international event initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2007, aiming to encourage energy conservation, environmental protection, sustainable development, and mitigation of climate change impacts. This year, the one-hour lights-off event in support of Earth Hour will take place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, March 22nd.

According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of Phu Tho Power Company, the company encouraged organizations, agencies, and customers to switch off lights and unnecessary electrical equipment during the Earth Hour 2025 event. At the same time, the company directed its subordinate power branches to post promotional content about electricity saving and environmental protection, in support of the Earth Hour campaign, through images, video clips, scrolling text on screens, websites, social media fan pages, and at customer service locations and power branch headquarters.

In Phu Tho province, participation in the Earth Hour campaign is integrated with the implementation of Directive No. 20/CT-TTg, dated June 8, 2023, of the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity saving in the period 2023-2025 and subsequent years. The electricity sector directly disseminates information, provides advice, supports, and encourages customers to apply innovative and highly effective solutions for safe, economical, and efficient electricity use. Simultaneously, it works with all industrial customers (with consumption of 1 million kWh/year or more) to disseminate the electricity supply plan for the year; solutions for economical and efficient electricity use; and encourages customers to sign contract addendums/agreements to participate in the electricity demand management programs of the Vietnam Electricity Group.

Not only during the Earth Hour campaign, but also throughout the province, the electricity sector and various departments and units regularly promote electricity conservation through numerous communication programs, consultations, and guidance for businesses and individuals on energy-saving practices, contributing to widespread awareness and consensus within the community. In 2024, the total electricity savings in the province reached 106.45 million kWh, accounting for 2.56% of commercial electricity consumption. During the 2024 Earth Hour campaign, the province's electricity consumption was reduced by approximately 7.1 MW, equivalent to a reduction of about 7,100 kWh.

Efforts in public awareness campaigns have effectively mobilized individuals and organizations to participate in Earth Hour, saving electricity, and have gained recognition and positive support from many businesses, households, and the general public. Ms. Bui Thi Hoa, owner of Hoa Duc electrical appliance store (Dong Tien area, Dong Lac commune, Yen Lap district), said: “I find the Earth Hour campaign very meaningful, helping businesses and customers pay more attention and become more aware of energy saving and environmental protection. For many years, the store has always focused on saving electricity and advising customers to choose energy-efficient products. To reduce electricity costs, the store designs a spacious environment, maximizes natural light, and uses air conditioning appropriately. For customers, we advise them to choose appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines... that apply inverter technology, along with products with energy efficiency labels certified by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.”

The Earth Hour campaign is a meaningful activity that spreads the message about long-term responsibility in protecting the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change. It requires the collective effort of the whole society through small but practical actions, contributing to building a green planet.
