In 2005, director Danny Yung had the idea to stage an experimental stage performance called The Meeting of the Gods as part of the Traditional Experimental Festival in Hong Kong.
He invited traditional theater artists to participate, combining them with contemporary visual art elements and graphic performance technology to create a highly experimental overall performance.
Successful in the first collaboration, Danny Yung conducted a parallel research and development project "Experimental Tradition" with this play as the main research object.
The play Meeting of the Gods - Death of the Generals 2024 version is a continuation of the series Meeting of the Gods that was born and went through many performances.
Director Danny Yung edited and restructured the performances, encouraging the artists to reflect and bring their own unique qualities to each performance segment, rediscovering legends and fairy tales from a contemporary perspective, and presenting them in a way that resonates with the audience.
The special feature of Zuni Icosahedron in general and the play The Meeting of the Gods - The Death of the Generals in particular is the integration and exchange between different cultures in Asia.
Danny Yung traveled far and wide, inviting multi-genre artists from different cities in Asia to participate in the play.
They are encouraged to express their own individuality and personality, but also to integrate into the overall picture of the encounter between two fictional characters: Shi Kefa and Gao Chong, thereby constantly renewing their “encounters with the gods”.
The show is designed to explore different aspects of traditional Chinese theatre, which has been passed down through generations and is widely enjoyed by audiences from different cultures and regions.
Through fictional conversations between two characters and impromptu dialogues between guest artists, the play seeks to explore how traditional values have changed and received a view from contemporary society.
