Since its publication, the novel has received much attention, introduction, and research articles from many writers, literary critics, and the public. The book has been warmly received by many readers, especially Truong Son soldiers who went through the war, and this reprint also comes from the urging of comrades and readers in general.

The author of the novel "The River of Fire" is Major General and writer Ho Sy Hau, former Director of the Economic Department, Ministry of National Defense. During the war against America, he was an engineer who designed and constructed the oil pipeline across Truong Son.

The novel “The River of Fire” recreates the history of the Truong Son pipeline troops from the time the first pipes were laid across the Vinh-Nam Dan-Linh Cam fire triangle in 1968 to the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30, 1975. These were intense competitions of courage and intelligence between the fierce attacks of the US Air Force and the bravery, intelligence, and creativity of the pipeline troops.

The novel also tells about heroic sacrifices and the fate of soldiers in war, including those who were later honored as Heroes of the Armed Forces such as Sergeant Nguyen Luong Dinh (the character Dinh in the novel).

Major General and writer Ho Sy Hau speaks at the work introduction ceremony.

This book can be summarized according to a reader's comment: The book tells us how soldiers (pipelines) in the war "lived, fought, loved and died".

Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang, former Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, shared that he appreciates the writings of Major General and writer Ho Sy Hau because the author's purpose is to recreate the history of the petroleum pipeline soldiers, so that future generations can better understand the silent work that the petroleum soldiers have done.

Major General Ho Sy Hau has clearly portrayed the tragedy and heroism of the pipeline troops - the Truong Son troops - where he lived for many years with it, attached to it, so he wrote such heartfelt lines. He wrote about the oil and gas troops, but I think he added a bright spot to the tradition of Uncle Ho's troops.

"It is even more precious because Major General and writer Ho Sy Hau did not write for fame, but rather the words of gratitude written by survivors of bombs and bullets to honor the heroes and martyrs who did not spare their youth and blood for the cause of liberating the South and reunifying the country," Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang emphasized.

According to Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang, in the book, the author used "gasoline and blood". If we consider the physical and chemical properties, they would be completely different, but in the pages he wrote, he combined them as one, because gasoline is as necessary as blood for soldiers, especially soldiers on the battlefield, especially units related to machinery, the value of these two words is even clearer.

The author used the two words "gasoline and blood" and expressed their close relationship on the battlefield. Just two words are a wonderful literary image, both literal and figurative, very realistic.

"Major General Ho Sy Hau has clearly portrayed the tragedy and heroism of the pipeline troops - the Truong Son troops - where he lived for many years with it, attached to it, so he wrote such heartfelt lines. He wrote about the oil and gas troops, but I think he added a bright spot to the tradition of Uncle Ho's troops", Lieutenant General Phung Khac Dang expressed.

Poet Vu Quan Phuong once commented on the work in an elaborate article: "This can be considered an intangible artifact of the Anti-American War Museum. This is the contribution of author Ho Sy Hau, a new writer but at the same time a veteran general in this war. His pen has fulfilled its duty as a historical witness. The further time goes, the more clearly these honest pages of memory become valuable as a primitive ore carrying all the fierce and tragic sediments of war."

According to the poet, the author has a rich life experience, an active participation in the fierce heart of the war, an experience of many levels from soldier to general, a vision and thinking of a scientific officer and especially the sensitivity and subtlety revealed in this work when describing the love vibrations and sacrificial situations of soldiers.

The book launch ceremony was solemn and emotional.

The oil pipeline during the war could be likened to a river of fire because if hit by a piece of bomb, it would burst into flames, and enemy planes would swarm to attack, causing losses and casualties that were difficult to measure. However, the pipeline still overcame high mountains, deep ravines, harsh weather, destructive air attacks and enemy infantry blockades to bring gasoline all the way to the South.

Lieutenant General Commander Dong Sy Nguyen commented: "If the Truong Son road is a legend, then the oil pipeline is a legend within that legend."

By republishing this book, the Writers Association Publishing House and the author hope to continue to bring readers, especially young people, a better understanding of a miracle in the war, and a better understanding of a generation of young men and women who devoted their youth to the country.
