Strange voice, strange life!

Tran Tung Anh is an unprecedented Castrato voice in the history of the Academy of Music.

Genderless singer Tran Tung Anh entered the singing career in 2017 when he participated in The Voice . Possessing a scholarly appearance, a deep and masculine voice, Tran Tung Anh has the ability to sing a sweet, high-pitched female voice. Many music experts assess that Tran Tung Anh has the ability to sing the highest female voice compared to male singers singing female voices in Vietnam today. That is the reason why the guy born in 1995 from Bac Giang once surprised the coaches of The Voice 2017 , giving them a lot of compliments when witnessing his unique performances on stage.

Tran Tung Anh then chose to join singer Thu Minh's team. Although he only stopped at the Top 13, he was still known as a rare "phenomenon" in the Vietnamese music industry. A year later, Tran Tung Anh decided to move to the South to find a suitable path to develop his singing career. He participated in the music game shows Tuyet Dinh Song Ca, Guong Mat Than Quen 2019 ... and created a fever with his rare castrato voice. In 2021, the singer from Bac Giang released his first MV Con Yeu Tho Dai , a composition by musician Giang Sol, which was well-received for his rich, emotional, and soaring female voice.

Looking back on his career, Tran Tung Anh is proud of himself for having overcome many difficulties and still being able to pursue his passionate musical path. The genderless singer had to work hard, earn money for his studies, develop his career... to find a place for himself in the music industry. The time he participated in game shows was not easy for him because high heels scratched his feet, wearing women's clothes was very difficult, and it was expensive to play the female role. But, in the end, he helped himself become a phenomenon that attracted attention and then gradually conquered the audience with songs that have lasted through the years, folk songs, and had performances on stages all over the country.

Singer Phuc Tiep, Tran Tung Anh's teacher when he studied at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, called Tran Tung Anh a "special student" and shared about his student with his first project on his personal page: "The first day I entered the school, when I discovered he was a Castrato, I was also surprised. In my decades of teaching at the Vietnam National Academy of Music as well as in the history of the Academy, there has never been a student who sang this voice. I felt both excited and curious.

At that time, I searched for most of the works about this special voice to research and planned to write a separate course for Tung Anh, preparing for a long-term learning process according to his strengths. During the working process, I found that he sang Castrato but especially loved Vietnamese music, especially songs with the sound of his homeland - folk songs, but did not like classical works written for that voice. When raised to the falsetto position, Tung Anh had the ability to sing extremely high and very smoothly, but his real voice was a pure Baritone. And the male-female duets were performed by him alone....

Back then, the teacher and student talked about music programs. I intended to save this "rare product" for 3-4 years before releasing it when the technique and other parts were well-prepared. However, the urge and desire to conquer the audience brought Tran Tung Anh to The Voice . Immediately, the audience was very excited about Tran Tung Anh's appearance. Of course, with a rather busy performance schedule and the main audience being the South, studying was put on hold...

Tran Tung Anh makes an album dedicated to his recently deceased father

During the album launch of Vol.01 Mountain of Hat this morning, Tran Tung Anh made the whole audience shiver when he showed off his soft, sweet, and clear female voice through the song "Nang Tho Xu Hue". Immediately after that, he switched to a deep, strong male voice and alternated his voice in a rhythmic, subtle, magical harmony. Listening to Tran Tung Anh sing, if you don't look towards the stage, it's hard to believe that he's a guy, because from the way he lowers his voice to the high notes, everything is very feminine.

According to Tran Tung Anh, 3 years ago, he had planned the first live show of his career. However, before his dream could be realized, Tran Tung Anh's father passed away due to a serious illness. In mourning for his father, the male singer decided to switch to making his first album project , "Nui Hat", with valuable and touching meanings.

The name of the album "Nui hat" comes from the dream of Tran Tung Anh when he was young - a boy from the mountainous region of Bac Giang who loved singing, often sang loudly on the way to school and wished that in the future he would do something to express the beauty of the mountains and forests. "Nui hat" includes 9 MVs: "Tieng zither ta lu" , "Nang tho xu Hue" , " Ho tren nui", "Con duyen", "Qua cau gio bay", "Nin dac tinh yeu", "Tinh ca tay bac", "Tieng hat giu rung Pac Bo", and "Dep mai tinh ta" ...

According to Tran Tung Anh, all 9 selected songs encapsulate the marching steps of Tran Tung Anh's father in his military career and the emotional journey of his parents. Listening to the album, the audience will partly imagine the story of the life of a passionate young man who lived his life to the fullest to dedicate himself to the country, to life and to love and family. Tran Tung Anh has very cleverly chosen songs to convey the message he sends, to remember and express gratitude to his deceased father.

In the heart of the male singer, his father is a very gentle person. When he was young, his family was poor, his parents went to sing in the army by bicycle, often carrying Tran Tung Anh on their backs. Listening to his parents sing, the love for singing was in Tran Tung Anh from that day on.

However, Tran Tung Anh confessed that he and his father were not close and rarely talked. However, he always felt his father's love when everything he wanted to do was silently supported by his father. During the days when his father was seriously ill, Tran Tung Anh, who was living and working in Ho Chi Minh City at that time, returned home and was always by his side to take care of his father with his family.

"When my father was about to die, he was very close to me and loved me. Every time he woke up, he would ask where Tung Anh was. My father loved to listen to me sing. During the days he was hospitalized, he often played the songs I sang on YouTube next to his bed to listen to all night long. When my father was weak and people came to visit, he even asked everyone to bring speakers so Tung Anh could sing for everyone to hear. Seeing me sing like that, my father was very happy," Tran Tung Anh said.

At that time, Tran Tung Anh also wanted to do a personal live show project to give to his father, so that his father could sit in the first row at the Hanoi Opera House to watch his son sing, but he was not in time. His father's illness became worse and he passed away. Fortunately, before that, when participating in some game shows in Ho Chi Minh City, he also invited his parents to watch, so his heart was less troubled.

And today, after many months of nurturing and implementing, the album vol 1 Nui hat has fulfilled Tran Tung Anh's wish to give his father a truly thoughtful musical gift. In particular, in the project there is a song that Tran Tung Anh composed himself to dedicate to his parents' love, the song Dep mai tinh ta . The composition was inspired by the story of his parents' steadfast love. In this song, Tran Tung Anh sings in two genderless voices and a pure male voice like a loving, graceful and sweet dialogue between a man and a woman. Tran Tung Anh hopes that his first composition will be well received by the audience.

Tran Tung Anh's "Singing Mountain" will be released online on social networking platforms Facebook, Youtube, and Tiktok. According to the plan, 1 MV will be released every week from the announcement date of September 24.
