According to Decision No. 452e/QD-TTTV-QLG dated May 14, 2026, the VH88 rice variety, with registration number CNLH.2026.26, is permitted to be circulated for a period of 20 years from the date of signing the decision. The scope of circulation is during the spring and autumn seasons in the northern mountainous and midland provinces.

VH88 was developed by Bac Giang Seed Company from material transferred from China in 2019. After a rigorous selection process, continuous testing over many production seasons, and national trials in the 2023-2025 period, the VH88 pure rice variety was evaluated as having wide adaptability, high yield, good rice quality, and suitability for production conditions in many localities.
According to information from the breeding unit, VH88 is a temperature-sensitive variety that can be planted in both seasons of the year, is easy to care for, and tolerates intensive cultivation well. The growing season in the spring is 125-130 days, and in the autumn is 100-110 days. The plant is about 110-120 cm tall, with green leaves, narrow leaf angles, and fairly good resistance to seed shedding.
This variety has an average yield of 60-65 quintals/hectare, and with good intensive farming practices, it can reach up to 80 quintals/hectare. The rice grains are white, the cooked rice is sticky, rich, and has a distinctive aroma, making it highly valued for its commercial quality.
The approval of the VH88 rice variety for circulation contributes to supplementing the structure of quality rice varieties for the northern mountainous provinces; helping farmers have more choices of crop varieties to develop production, increase the value of rice grains and economic efficiency per unit of cultivated area.
