Following the merger, Chiềng Sơn border commune covers an area of over 200 km² and has a population of over 14,000 people, mainly Thái and Mông ethnic minorities, living in 24 villages. Among these, two villages, Pha Luông and Suối Thín, border the Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a total border length of 8.7 km. This area faces many complexities regarding drug trafficking, smuggling, illegal border crossings, and other transnational crimes. To ensure security and order in the area, especially the border region, the commune police have focused on advising the local Party committee and government to strengthen the dissemination of laws; implementing self-governing models from clans and residential areas, linked with the "All People Protect National Security" movement.
Lieutenant Colonel Truong Huy Toan, Deputy Head of the Chieng Son Commune Police, said: The unit has advised on the establishment of 138 "Neighborhood Self-Management" groups; maintaining 24 security and order teams and 24 grassroots mediation teams in the villages. In addition, the unit has also coordinated the development of the "Accompanying the Cause" model to support employment and help those who have completed drug rehabilitation reintegrate into the community...

The commune police regularly visit the village to educate the people about recognizing and preventing various types of crimes, especially drug-related crimes, illegal border crossings, and the prohibition of possessing or using weapons, explosives, and supporting tools. At the same time, they support the village in strengthening the Security and Order Protection Team and 8 self-governing neighborhood groups. Thanks to this, the security and order situation in the village is always maintained, and the people can work and produce with peace of mind."
Since the beginning of the year, the Chiềng Sơn Commune Police have organized nearly 20 legal awareness sessions for over 1,200 people in the villages; organized the signing of fire prevention and fighting commitments for 9 agencies, units, cooperatives and over 750 households engaged in production and business in the area. To date, complex incidents related to security and order, child marriage, and illegal proselytization in the area have significantly decreased. In particular, the unit has also taken the lead in implementing Project 06 and has done a good job advising the government on people-to-people diplomacy and coordinating efforts to maintain border sovereignty .
With a spirit of serving the people, the Chiềng Sơn Commune Police continue to advise the local Party committee and government on plans to ensure security and order; consolidate and expand exemplary models in the "All People Protect National Security" movement; and proactively launch intensive campaigns to effectively combat various types of crime... building a solid people's security posture in the border area.
