Preserving the Thien Hau Temple Relic

Along with the Governor's Residence building, in the Dong Nai Riverfront Road Project, from Hoa An Bridge (also known as the New Bridge) in Tran Bien Ward to Tan Trieu Ward, a Chinese folk religious site is preserved: the Thien Hau Temple located right on the Dong Nai River bank, opposite Tan Hanh communal house on the other side of the river in Bien Hoa Ward.

Goddess Thien Hau, also known as Thien Hau Holy Mother, is the patron goddess of fishermen and seafarers. Her name was Lam Mac Nuong, and legend says that thanks to her, her husband and two sons escaped a fierce storm, and she later became a goddess who saved the people.

According to Mr. Huynh Huu Nghia, Head of the Chinese Community Committee in Bien Hoa (formerly), this temple was established before Ong Pagoda, also known as That Phu Ancient Temple on Pho Island, now part of Tran Bien Ward. Ba Pagoda in Binh Duong (now Ho Chi Minh City) was built later, bringing the ancestral tablets from this temple for worship, and the Ancestral Temple near Buu Long Mountain also brought its ancestral tablets from here, now also called Thien Hau Ancient Temple.

Preserving these two historical sites during the implementation of the Dong Nai Riverfront Road Project not only safeguards cultural, historical, and religious values but also creates a beautiful scenic highlight along the riverfront in Tran Bien ward.
