On the evening of July 11, at Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane, the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, in coordination with Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane, held the opening ceremony of a Vietnamese language class and a Vietnamese bookshelf for the Vietnamese community in Laos and Lao people who want to learn Vietnamese with the desire to preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people.

Attending the event were Mr. Phan Minh Chien, Counselor, Second Deputy of the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos; representative of Phat Tich Pagoda in Vientiane; representative of the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos; representative of the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, along with many students who are children of Vietnamese people living and working in Vientiane and students who are Lao.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Phan Minh Chien said that in recent years, the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos has coordinated and supported the Vietnamese Association in Vientiane, Phat Tich Pagoda... to open classes to teach Lao, English, especially Vietnamese for the Vietnamese community in 2018 and 2020, with the hope that overseas Vietnamese in Laos will always maintain their mother tongue Vietnamese, thereby preserving the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people.

Mr. Chien expressed that after a period of interruption due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the organizing committee reopened the Vietnamese language class to serve the Vietnamese community living and working in Laos in need, which is a very meaningful and noteworthy activity; at the same time, he hoped that the teachers would devote all their enthusiasm and dedication to teaching the class, through teaching Vietnamese to help students understand more about the cultural identity and good customs and practices of the Vietnamese people.

Ms. Dinh Thi Phuong Loan, an overseas Vietnamese living and working in the capital Vientiane, felt very happy when she learned that Phat Tich Pagoda reopened Vietnamese classes and she volunteered to participate in teaching Vietnamese so that the children could know Vietnamese, speak Vietnamese with their parents and family, thereby contributing to preserving the Vietnamese language tradition and later the children could return to Vietnam to study more and understand more about Vietnamese cultural traditions.

The bookcase is located in the grounds of Phat Tich Pagoda, a place for readers of all ages to stop after hard working days or on weekends to enjoy good books in a quiet, cool space, to arouse interest and love for the Vietnamese language and to explore Vietnam.

In addition, the bookshelf also has story books and bilingual Vietnamese-Lao magazines, helping readers understand more deeply the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Right after the opening ceremony, in a small room at the Phat Tich campus in the capital Vientiane, the teacher and students of the Vietnamese class began to get acquainted with the first lesson.

The class is held 3 sessions/year and the course lasts 3 months. Students participating in the course will be fully trained in 4 skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

At the end of the course, the Organizing Committee will test, evaluate the results and issue certificates to students.
