Da Lat celebrates its 130th anniversary with pride in joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music . At 130, it's still very young for a city to develop, but Da Lat has already established a solid position for itself. This is due in no small part to the city's unique characteristics and its ability to transform those values into advantages for development.

From its inception, Da Lat was defined as a city distinct from other cities in the region, a temperate zone within a tropical landscape, intended as a resort town for the French in Indochina at that time. Throughout its development, Da Lat's function as a resort city has been affirmed with unique characteristics that other cities in the region cannot compete with. It is known as a cool land, a land of whispering pines, the city of a thousand flowers, a city within a forest – a forest within a city… and countless other romantic names.

The unique charm of Da Lat isn't found in abstract definitions, grand or lofty things, but in everyday reality. Its cool, fresh climate is perhaps its greatest advantage and unique selling point. It's a major draw for tourists, especially those living and working in the bustling cities of the South. That's why some groups of visitors can't remember how many times they've been to Da Lat; sometimes they take advantage of weekends just to breathe in the cool air, stroll around, enjoy a glass of soy milk or grilled corn from a street vendor by Xuan Huong Lake... and then return home.

The cool climate of Da Lat is not only "bestowed" by its altitude of over 1,500 meters above sea level, but also nurtured by the vast pine forests in the suburbs and even within the city – "city in the forest, forest in the city". Conversely, the cool climate is also an ideal environment for pine trees to thrive. These two elements complement and blend together naturally. This is why we see misty mornings and hazy clouds over the pine-covered slopes – images that instantly identify Da Lat, unmistakable from any other place.
Dalat's unique charm lies in its rolling hills and winding roads that are so tiring to walk on. With urban development and increased traffic, road expansion is inevitable. However, Dalat's roads need to retain their characteristic curves, following the terrain, ascending hills and descending slopes. This will allow travelers to leave behind the hustle and bustle of city life and instead find balance and tranquility at a slower pace.
Da Lat's unique charm lies in its ever-changing seasons of flowers. Beyond the dazzling, captivating beauty of cherry blossoms in early spring, or the elegant jacaranda blossoms in early summer, sometimes the simple pink hues of the rose bushes lining the hedges in small alleyways are enough to captivate travelers. Or, in winter, the wild sunflowers blanket the pine forests and slopes in a desolate yellow... These seemingly ordinary wildflowers, found almost anywhere on the plateau, when blended into the characteristic landscape, possess a beauty that is distinctly "Da Lat."
They say time has a devastating power, but it also creates many valuable things. For Da Lat, the value of time lies in its ancient villas and mansions with unique European architecture. In the journey of building Da Lat into a World Heritage city, these ancient architectural works, refined over centuries, have contributed significantly.
Da Lat has built its brand on things that are distinctly different from other cities. These are "exclusive" values, but they are not limitless. Therefore, exploiting these resources and values requires careful consideration. Exploiting them while simultaneously preserving and nurturing them so that their unique characteristics do not fade away.
