On May 15, Deputy Director of theEducation for Nature (ENV) Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung said that the campaign "Day to fight wildlife violations in cyberspace" was initiated by ENV in February 2025 and is held periodically on the third Wednesday of every month.
After three months of launching, the campaign has recorded very positive results.
Specifically, 10 closed groups specializing in selling wild animals have been permanently removed from cyberspace with a total of 101,088 member accounts disabled.
“These are accounts that have been involved in sharing, accessing or trading wildlife products. Removing these groups is an important step in the effort to clean up the online environment from illegal activities,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung.
According to ENV statistics, in 2024 alone, ENV recorded 206,927 live individuals, parts and products from wild animals being sold on Facebook.
Social media's slow response or disregard for warnings has fueled illegal trade, pushing many wildlife species closer to extinction.
The May event “Day to Combat Wildlife Cyber Crime” is scheduled to take place on May 21.
ENV continues to call on the community to join hands in reporting violating posts on Facebook, and at the same time spread information to raise awareness and contribute to gradually eliminating the illegal wildlife trade market on the internet environment./.
