On December 3rd, in San Francisco, Google announced that Veo, an artificial intelligence (AI) model capable of creating short videos from images and descriptive text, will soon be available to customers using Google Cloud's Vertex AI development platform.
Veo was first introduced by Google last April. This tool can create high-quality videos with resolutions up to 1080p. These videos can be up to 6 seconds long, with a frame rate of 24 or 30 frames per second. This model can create videos on a variety of topics, from natural landscapes, objects, and people to complex motion effects.
In particular, Veo supports many different image and cinematic styles, from landscapes and time-lapse to editing existing footage. This model also supports editing specific areas in the video, allowing users to change details without affecting the entire scene.
According to Google, Veo doesn't just create individual video clips; it can also edit and combine created video clips to produce more complete final products. Furthermore, Veo demonstrates a good understanding and ability to handle visual effects (VFX), as well as grasping basic physics principles.
This is considered a major step forward in the application of AI to video content production, opening up great potential for businesses in many industries. One of the first customers to use Veo is Quora. This popular question-and-answer website will integrate Veo into its Poe chatbot platform.
Meanwhile, another of Veo's clients, Mondelez International (the company that owns the Oreo cookie brand), will also adopt this model to create engaging marketing content for its distributor partners.
Sharing insights on this development, Warren Barkley, Senior Product Manager at Google Cloud, stated that since Veo was announced, the research team has continuously improved and strengthened the model to serve enterprise customers on the Vertex AI platform. With Veo's support, users can create high-resolution 720p videos with a 16:9 aspect ratio for landscape videos or a 9:16 aspect ratio for portrait videos.
Veo is expected to compete directly with leading video creation models such as OpenAI's Sora, Adobe, Runway, Luma, Meta, and many others. This model has been trained on high-quality video datasets, with a rigorous selection process to ensure safety and security.
