Google I/O 2026 is drawing attention given that artificial intelligence (AI) has become central to most of Google's products, from its search engine, Gmail, Google Docs to Pixel phones and other smart devices.
According to CNET, Google is pursuing a multi-faceted approach to AI, with Gemini integrated into multiple business areas. Gemini is Google's AI system, capable of supporting conversations, information analysis, content creation, and operations across various applications.
Over the past year, Google introduced Gemini 3 in November 2025, considered one of the most advanced AI models at the time of its release. The newer version, Gemini 3.1 Pro, further improves its reasoning capabilities. Google also added features such as file creation, interactive image creation in conversations, applications for macOS, and integration with NotebookLM.
Another notable development is agent AI, a type of AI that can perform certain processes and complete tasks on behalf of the user. Although Google has closed its Project Mariner experimental project, its capabilities are expected to continue to be used in other Gemini products. Google may also provide more details about Project Astra, the technology that helps AI recognize objects via camera in Gemini Live.

In the content creation sector, Google is pushing its AI-powered image and video creation tools. The Nano Banana image model, launched in August, along with subsequent upgrades, has made Google a significant competitor in the generative media field. Video models like Veo 3.1 and Veo 3.1 Lite also demonstrate Google's ambition to integrate AI into visual content production.
AI is also becoming more prominent in hardware. The Pixel 10 series integrates many tools such as live voice translation, relevant information suggestions from apps, and photo editing support. Google is also developing wearable devices and smart glasses based on the Android XR platform, many years after the Google Glass project.
Google Search is one of the products most dramatically changed by AI. AI-powered summaries, AI Mode, and the ability to analyze images and files are making searching feel more like a conversation. However, Google's use of data from various apps like email, calendar, and photos to personalize results also raises privacy questions.
