Google releases AI update for Android devices.

At the recently concluded "Made by Google" event, the search giant announced an AI feature update for Android devices, along with the next generation of Pixel phones.

This means Google will bring its Gemini AI assistant to supported devices before its rival Apple, which is expected to release AI on iPhones, Macs, and iPads later this year.

Although it doesn't generate profit from its hardware business, the latest Android features could help boost revenue through a paid subscription program on the Gemini AI platform.

"We've completely rebuilt the Gemini AI assistant experience; users can now talk to it more naturally, just like they're communicating with a real person," said Sameer Samat, president of Android Ecosystems. "The Gemini AI assistant can understand intentions, track user thought processes, and complete complex tasks."

He also stated that users can "overlay" Gemini onto the apps they are using to question what is being displayed on the screen. According to Google, this feature will be available on hundreds of smartphone models from dozens of different device manufacturers.

Google has previously integrated some AI features into Android devices, but this is the first year the company has focused on highlighting AI capabilities supported by a large language model across its devices.

Also at this event, Google unveiled its latest Pixel 9 smartphone series. In addition to upgrades in design and specifications, the company also increased the number of variants, launching three Pro options for users to choose from.

The Pixel 9 series and Pixel Watch

The Google Pixel 9 will go on sale on August 22nd with a starting price of $799, a $100 increase from last year's version. The Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL will have starting prices of $999 and $1,099 respectively, with the Pixel 9 Pro XL going on sale on September 22nd and the 9 Pro going on sale in September.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold foldable smartphone will go on sale on September 4th with a starting price of $1,799.

In addition, Google also announced the Pixel Watch 3. The product comes in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, with a larger screen than previous models. New features include options for planning running workouts, information on user recovery with data on readiness and cardiovascular load, as well as AI-assisted workout suggestions.

Google also stated that the Pixel Watch 3 is more deeply integrated into its ecosystem, allowing access to feeds from Nest cameras and doorbells, offline control of Google TV and Google Maps. The Watch 3 boasts up to 24 hours of battery life or 36 hours in Power Saver mode.
