Google has long been known as a company that is always ready to update and change the design of its products with each new generation. These changes do not stop at shrinking the bezels or reducing the thickness, but often bring clear improvements in appearance and features.

With the recent launch of the Pixel 9, we've seen a few design changes. However, if you thought that the Pixel 9a, Google's premium mid-range phone, would retain the same design as the Pixel 9, you might want to think again, as recently leaked renders have revealed some notable differences.

Pixel 9a design leak: Big changes in camera

According to reliable leaks from OnLeaks and AndroidHeadlines, the Pixel 9a will have a different design than the Pixel 8a, especially in the camera department. Specifically, the elongated camera bar on the Pixel 8a has been removed and replaced with a flat "camera island" that is flush with the back of the phone. This design is said to be inspired by both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, providing a cleaner and more modern look. This new highlight will help the Pixel 9a stand out from other mid-range models on the market.

A small but notable change is that the LED flash has been separated from the main camera cluster and placed outside the "camera island". These changes not only help improve the appearance of the device but also bring more convenience in taking photos.

General design: Still keeping the characteristics

Despite the significant camera changes, the other design elements of the Pixel 9a remain in the traditional Pixel style. The phone will still have gently rounded corners and a display with a cutout for the front camera. The screen size is expected to remain at 6.1 inches, similar to the Pixel 8a, providing a comfortable and compact grip.

Configuration: The upgrade worth waiting for

Although there is currently no official information about the specifications of the Pixel 9a, many experts believe that Google will continue to equip this phone with the Tensor G4 chip - similar to other high-end models in the Pixel line. This promises to bring strong performance to the Pixel 9a, helping users experience smoothly with daily tasks as well as when using heavy applications.

In addition, the Pixel 9a is also expected to have a larger battery, which can surpass the 4,492mAh capacity of the Pixel 8a, providing users with longer usage time. In particular, the Pixel 9a is also said to be the last Google phone to use a chip manufactured by Samsung, before switching to using a completely custom chip from TSMC - a famous chip manufacturer that has cooperated with Apple and Qualcomm.

Release date

While the leaks have given us an early look at the Pixel 9a, users will still have to wait a while to get their hands on it. According to many predictions, the Pixel 9a will officially launch at the Google I/O event in May 2025. This is when Google usually announces its latest technology products, and the Pixel 9a will certainly be one of the brightest stars of the event.

With design changes and performance improvements, the Pixel 9a promises to continue to maintain its position as one of the most worth-buying mid-range phones on the market. Users will not only experience the high-end features of the Pixel line but also have the opportunity to own a device at an affordable price. Let's wait and see what surprises Google will bring when the Pixel 9a is officially launched next year.
