NDO - According to Google's research, in terms of economic benefits, Vietnam could gain 1,890 trillion VND (79.3 billion USD) by 2030 if AI tools are widely applied.

At the "Shaping the AI Future for Vietnam" conference held on November 15th in Hanoi , Google representatives presented the Economic Impact Report: Driving Digital Growth in Vietnam with Google. According to the report, the potential of AI in Vietnam is enormous. If AI tools are widely adopted, Vietnamese businesses could generate 1,890 trillion VND (79.3 billion USD) by 2030. This figure is equivalent to nearly 12% of Vietnam's GDP in 2030.

The workshop "Shaping the AI Future for Vietnam," organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) of the Ministry of Planning and Investment in collaboration with Google, aimed to explore the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and discuss policy mechanisms for AI development in Vietnam.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Do Thanh Trung stated that, in its role as the agency providing comprehensive advice on socio-economic development strategies, the Ministry has advised and submitted to the Prime Minister for approval the Program "Development of Human Resources for the Semiconductor Industry until 2030, with a vision to 2050" in Decision No. 1017/QD-TTg.

Specifically, the proposal sets a target for Vietnam to have at least 5,000 personnel with engineering degrees or higher, specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), by 2030 to serve the semiconductor industry.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has assigned the National Innovation Center to coordinate with domestic and international partners and experts to research and build an AI Training, Research, and Application Center to serve the incubation of AI businesses, support AI research and application, and provide in-depth AI training. The goal is to train 7,000 AI experts according to international standards and incubate approximately 500 AI startups by 2030.

These are proactive steps aimed at realizing the goal of making Vietnam a center for innovation and development of artificial intelligence solutions and applications in the ASEAN region and around the world.

At the seminar, Google representatives presented the content of the AI Economic Impact Report and the AI Opportunity Agenda for Vietnam Report. Accordingly, the report recommends that Vietnam strengthen its technical infrastructure to support AI-based innovation, build a workforce ready to apply AI, and increase access to AI throughout the economy.

Google's report also provides an in-depth analysis of strategies to bridge the digital literacy and AI gap, helping the Vietnamese workforce effectively leverage AI and drive economic growth.

In addition, Google representatives also quantified Google's current contribution to supporting businesses, households, and the workforce in Vietnam through its diverse AI-integrated products and services such as Google Search, Google Ads, Google AdSense, Google Play, and YouTube; Google Cloud, Google Workspace, etc.

Andrew Ure, Senior Director of Government Relations and Public Policy at Google Southeast Asia, said: "With a young, tech-savvy population and a dynamic digital landscape, Vietnam is well-positioned to capitalize on AI opportunities. Therefore, we are delighted to partner with NIC to introduce the first AI Policy & Skilling Lab to Vietnam."
