On the afternoon of June 4, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Professor and National Assembly delegate Nguyen Anh Tri emphasized his desire to donate the Heritage Park of Vietnamese Scientists, covering tens of hectares with millions of archived documents and many works, worth about 500 billion VND, to the State.
This priceless asset of the people
Why do you want to give back to the State the project that you and your colleagues have worked so hard to build and develop?
- This is not a spontaneous idea but has been around since the very first day of the establishment of the Heritage Park of Vietnamese Scientists (Meddom).
Here, among millions of artifacts, tangible and intangible heritages collected by scientists, there are many priceless documents.
I always think that these documents and artifacts belong to scientists themselves and, more broadly, to the people. No matter how much we collect, we are just collecting, and this invaluable asset belongs to the people.
These documents and heritages are valuable in recognizing and honoring the contributions of scientists, contributing to building a civilized country with cultural depth.
Above all, it has great significance ineducating the younger generation.
These things reinforce my thinking that when the park is completed, it will be dedicated to the country and the people, not kept for myself.
The park was built from Medlatec's own funds, developed from scratch and without borrowing or raising capital. It is still being invested and developed... So if it is donated to the State, it will not have to spend time and effort.
The State can immediately use, even use the staff of Meddom to develop into a beautiful, modern, unique tourist destination in Vietnam as well as in the world .
This was the best time to donate because I could convince Medlatec's leadership - including my wife, children, colleagues and students - to come to a consensus.
We hope to continue to contribute our efforts, intelligence and experience to help the park grow stronger.

Can you share about the idea of building the park?
- When I was a PhD student in 1993, I really appreciated all the comments and suggestions from my teachers on my thesis.
I read it very carefully and thought that those comments were extremely valuable, not only for my thesis but also for my future life. From then on, I intended to keep all the documents as long as possible.
At that time, just a young doctor, I thought that if I had the opportunity in the future, I would build a park to store documents and memories of master scientists and leave them to the country.
In 1999, I shared with my wife and children my wish to build a park for scientists to later give back to the country and received support.
Colleagues in the first group of people working at Medlatec were very supportive and expressed their determination to work together.
After researching many places, we found that we should choose a location about 100km away from Hanoi.
During a business trip to Hoa Binh, I asked a friend to introduce me and then Medlatec asked me to buy a piece of land in the mountainous area of Tieng hamlet, Bac Phong commune, Cao Phong district. After that, we applied for a park project and the province agreed.
After many difficulties, challenges and advantages, the park now has an area of about 34 hectares, with streams, hills, flatlands...
To carry out this park, we invited leading scientists in museum conservation, who are passionate and trustworthy, to be consultants and experts.
The first expert council was established in 2008, chaired by Professor Pham Minh Hac, former Minister of Education and Training. Among them was Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Huy - son of Professor Nguyen Van Huyen, former Minister of National Education (now the Ministry of Education and Training).
Along with that, this is a model that Vietnam does not have yet, and is very rare in the world, so building an implementation team is a top priority.
Up to now, we have had a very good and experienced working team. In particular, we have applied digitalization from the beginning and continue to promote digital transformation and innovation...
Thanks to that, besides physical artifacts, there is also a soft museum, with data scanned and stored according to the digital conversion process.

Preserving more than 1 million documents and artifacts of more than 7,000 scientists
What is in the park now, professor?
- Meddom includes the Heritage Center of Vietnamese Scientists in Hanoi - a place to transact and work with scientists to collect documents and artifacts.
Heritage Park of Vietnamese Scientists in Hoa Binh - a place to store and promote the value of all documents and artifacts that have been searched and collected.
The park has the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Museum and the Life Skills Education Center. Both have been assessed and licensed to operate.
The museum currently holds more than 1 million documents and artifacts of more than 7,000 scientists in all specialties and many fields, not just medicine. Most of the most famous and leading professors in Vietnam have documents and artifacts in it.
Over the past 15 years, we have spent a lot of effort and time collecting many valuable and priceless documents and artifacts.
There was a scientist who donated dozens of unique handwritten diaries. Then there was a priceless set of documents handwritten by teachers from abroad. The first doctorate degree of science of a Vietnamese scientist from the Soviet Union (Professor Thai Van Trung)...
With these valuable documents, students can clearly see the examples and determination to study of previous generations just by looking at them.
Over the past time, many domestic and foreign scientists and experts have visited and highly appreciated the uniqueness of the park, a combination of a museum and a life skills center, a place to visit, experience, have fun, and stay...
Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, during his lifetime, also assessed this model as "unprecedented anywhere in the world". Every year, tens of thousands of people, of which 60-70% are students, come to visit and study here. This shows its great meaning and value.

Action of noble meaning
I highly appreciate Professor Nguyen Anh Tri's intention to donate the Vietnam Scientists Heritage Park to the State. This is a noble action, especially for the education of the younger generation.
We need to see that the value of each person is not what they have, how much money, how much property, but what they leave behind when they die.
I hope that if the State accepts, it will continue to invest and develop the park so that it is not simply a place for entertainment and relaxation, but a place to learn and show gratitude to scientists. From there, it will educate traditions and encourage the younger generation to study.
