The People's Committee of Ha Giang province has just issued Decision No. 2131/QD-UBND approving the plan to collect entrance fees for the UNESCO Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark. This is a step in the process of developing a legal document, serving as the basis for drafting a Resolution to be submitted to the Provincial People's Council for consideration and decision.

The Dong Van Karst Plateau is a spectacular and unique combination of towering peaks and deep gorges, with the highest peak being Meo Vac (1,971m) and the deepest gorge being Tu San, with cliff depths reaching over 700m.

According to the plan, Ha Giang will collect a one-time fee per person staying overnight at accommodation establishments in the four districts of Dong Van, Yen Minh, Meo Vac, and Quan Ba, excluding entrance fees to attractions currently selling tickets in the Stone Plateau region, including: Lung Khuy Cave (Quan Ba district), the Vuong Family House architectural and artistic relic, and the Lung Cu Flagpole historical and scenic site (Dong Van district).

With an entrance fee of 30,000 VND per adult and 15,000 VND per child per night, it is estimated that in 2024, the number of visitors to the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark could reach nearly 1.8 million, generating approximately 48 billion VND in revenue. A portion of this will be allocated to the fee collection management unit and accommodation businesses in the four districts of the Karst Plateau region, while the remainder will be deposited into the national budget to support conservation, reinvest in infrastructure, and enhance the quality of the destination experience for tourists.

Tourism is believed to have transformed the landscape of the four highland districts in the Dong Van Karst Plateau.

The Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark was established in September 2009, officially recognized as a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in October 2010, and has successfully passed three reassessments of its membership status.

The Dong Van Karst Plateau has a vast and relatively complex topography, spanning four districts: Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, and Meo Vac, with a total natural area of 2,356 km² . Currently, four experiential tourism routes are being developed, encompassing 59 heritage sites. According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province, from 2015 to the end of 2022, approximately 65% of tourists visiting Ha Giang chose to visit the Dong Van Karst Plateau.
