According to Official Dispatch No. 1233/CV-SDL-VP issued by the Hanoi Department of Tourism on August 26, the National Day holiday on September 2 this year will be extended. Along with many large-scale events taking place in the capital, it is expected to attract a large number of tourists. This is also a time when there is a potential risk of fraudsters increasing their activities.
A common trick is to impersonate famous hotels and homestays. The subjects use real names, logos, and images to create fake websites or fanpages with a large number of followers. Then, they list unusually cheap room prices to attract customers. Next, they ask customers to transfer deposits in advance via personal accounts or e-wallets. Next, they use the excuse of "transaction errors" to request additional money transfers in order to appropriate property.

Hanoi Department of Tourism recommends that tourists should check carefully when booking rooms online. When a hotel or homestay has many websites or fanpages with the same name, pay attention to unusual signs. These are newly created fanpages, recently renamed but posting massive advertisements, shocking discounts. Administrator positions in countries other than Vietnam. Or using many fake accounts to comment and give good reviews.
To avoid this, when booking a room, visitors should ask the hotel or homestay to provide information about the phone number, address, and business license. Check the business or individual account to make sure it matches the information on the business license. Importantly, before transferring money to book a room, people should call the hotel or homestay directly to check. Absolutely do not continue to transfer money multiple times as requested by the hotel or homestay.
In addition, the Department of Tourism recommends that visitors book rooms through reputable travel agencies. These agencies must be licensed to operate travel services (information can be found on the website https://quanlyluhanh.vn). Or through reputable booking platforms.
To ensure the safety of tourists, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has requested the People's Committees of wards and communes in the city to increase propaganda and warn people and tourists about fraudulent tricks. The Department of Accommodation Management and the Department of Travel Management have notified accommodation establishments and travel agencies to post warnings on their websites and fanpages. The Tourism Information and Promotion Center will also post warnings on the Department of Tourism's website and fanpage.
