Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan said that the entrance exam for grade 10 public schools in Hanoi for the 2024-2025 school year will basically remain stable as the previous school year.
Accordingly, Hanoi will organize a joint exam with three subjects: math, literature, and foreign language. For foreign language, students will be able to choose one of the foreign languages they have studied. Math and literature will be tested in essay format, with a time limit of 120 minutes each. Foreign language will be tested in objective multiple choice format, with a time limit of 60 minutes.
Students taking the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi this year also have 3 wishes to enter public high schools.
In which, the first and second wishes are in the enrollment area where the student registered (in accordance with the place of permanent residence registration). The third wish can be registered in different enrollment areas within the 12 enrollment areas regulated by the Department of Education and Training.
Students who do not pass the entrance exam to public high schools can study at private schools, vocational education - continuing education centers, high schools affiliated with universities in the area...
Hanoi allows private schools to consider 10th grade admission based on transcripts immediately after the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Private schools and autonomous public schools can simultaneously consider admission based on transcripts and exam scores from the general exam.
Hanoi currently has 117 non-specialized public high schools, 2 specialized high schools, 9 autonomous public high schools, 4 joint high schools and 97 private high schools.
In the 2023-2024 school year, the entire city of Hanoi has 129,210 students taking the junior high school graduation exam, of which 115,059 candidates took the 10th grade entrance exam and 78,623 students were admitted to public 10th grade, accounting for 60.9%. This number is higher than the enrollment target that Hanoi previously assigned to schools.
