Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan stated that the entrance exam for 10th grade in Hanoi's public schools for the 2024-2025 school year will essentially remain the same as the previous school year.

Accordingly, Hanoi will organize a unified exam with three subjects: mathematics, literature, and foreign language. For the foreign language subject, students will choose one of the foreign languages they have studied. Mathematics and literature exams will be in essay format, with a time limit of 120 minutes per subject. The foreign language exam will be in multiple-choice format, with a time limit of 60 minutes.

Students applying for the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi this year also have three preferences for public high schools.

The first and second choices must be within the enrollment area where the student is applying (corresponding to their permanent residence registration address). The third choice can be registered in any of the 12 enrollment areas specified by the Department of Education and Training.

Students who do not get admitted to public high schools can attend private schools, vocational training centers, continuing education centers, or high schools affiliated with universities in the area…

Hanoi has allowed private schools to admit 10th-grade students based on academic transcripts immediately after the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Private schools and autonomous public schools can simultaneously use both academic transcripts and scores from the national entrance exam for admission.

Hanoi currently has 117 non-specialized public high schools, 2 specialized high schools, 9 autonomous public high schools, 4 jointly managed high schools, and 97 private high schools.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi had 129,210 students taking the junior high school graduation exam, including 115,059 candidates participating in the 10th grade entrance exam, and 78,623 students were admitted to public 10th grade classes, accounting for 60.9%. This number is higher than the enrollment targets previously set by Hanoi for schools.
