Hanoi: Many flood control projects accelerate towards completion.

GĐXH - In the early days of the 2026 rainy season, on numerous flood control construction sites in Hanoi, units are accelerating the completion of each item of flood control projects, in order to put them into operation before this year's rainy season.

The Hanoi Party Committee and People's Committee have identified urban flooding as one of the "bottlenecks" that need to be addressed with both short-term and long-term solutions. The city specifically requested the acceleration of drainage and localized flood control projects in the inner city to ensure effectiveness for the 2026 rainy season.

According to information from the Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure Management Center, as of May 16th, the relevant units have returned the land at three locations on Trang Thi, Phan Chu Trinh, and Ly Thai To streets.

It is expected that on May 25th, another 10 barricades will be dismantled along Ly Thuong Kiet, Quan Su, Quang Trung, Le Lai, Nguyen Trai, Hai Ba Trung, Trang Tien, Tong Dan streets, the area around the Grand Theatre Square, and Thong Nhat Park. The remaining large manholes will be constructed manually and completed before May 30th.

The simultaneous acceleration of flood control projects not only brings hope for reduced flooding for Hanoi residents in the upcoming rainy season but also demonstrates Hanoi's determination to upgrade urban infrastructure in a modern and sustainable direction.

Once these projects are effective, the image of streets turning into "rivers" after heavy rains will gradually be remedied, contributing to building a more civilized, modern, and livable capital city.

According to Mr. Le Van Du, Head of the Water Supply and Drainage Infrastructure Management Department (Hanoi Department of Construction), by the end of April 2026, many key items had been basically completed and put into trial operation.

Three projects implemented by the City's Technical Infrastructure Management Center have largely completed their main components.
