Hanoi's AQI reached 182 and was ranked 3rd among the 10 most polluted cities in the world by Air Visual.
On December 3rd, information from the Air Visual air quality monitoring application showed that Hanoi 's air quality index (AQI) was very poor, with high levels of pollution as the air everywhere was covered by thick smog and fine dust.
At 8:00 AM on the same day, the AQI index in Hanoi reached 182 and was ranked 3rd among the 10 most polluted cities in the world by Air Visual, after Karachi and Lahore in Pakistan.
The prolonged air pollution in Northern Vietnam and Hanoi is due to changing weather conditions during the winter, which prevent pollutants (fine dust and vehicle exhaust) from dispersing upwards, causing them to concentrate near the ground. Additionally, the end-of-year period has led to increased traffic, industrial, construction, and domestic activities (burning garbage, burning straw).
