The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued an official response to the petition from voters in Thuong Tin district regarding the investment and construction of the southern bus station in the capital. This is an important step towards completing the transportation infrastructure network at the southern gateway of the city.

Strategically located at the southern gateway.

According to the approved planning scheme, the new bus station is expected to be located in the border area between Thuong Tin commune and Hong Van commune (formerly within the administrative boundaries of Duyen Thai and Van Binh communes). This location is west of Ring Road 4, right next to National Highway 1A and behind the Polytechnic College.

Voters appreciate the project not only for its contribution to strengthening regional connectivity but also for its impetus for socio -economic development, while significantly improving the appearance of Hanoi's transportation infrastructure.

Directly connected to Vietnam's longest national highway.

The new bus station is located right next to National Highway 1A, Vietnam's longest arterial road, with a total length of approximately 2,300km, connecting Huu Nghi border gate (Lang Son) to Ca Mau . According to the road network plan for the period 2021-2030, National Highway 1A will be upgraded to four lanes with a total length of 2,482km.

Locating the bus station at this position optimizes transportation capacity, connecting Hanoi with southern provinces. Currently, the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 1A, specifically the Van Dien - Ngoc Hoi section, is also one of the city's top priorities to alleviate traffic congestion in this area.

Expedite the review and implementation of planning.

The Hanoi Department of Construction agrees with the proposal to invest in a new bus station because the project will create more space for logistics and service activities. The Hanoi People's Committee has assigned the People's Committees of Thuong Tin and Hong Van communes to coordinate with the Departments of Planning and Architecture, Finance, and Construction to carry out the following steps:

  • Conduct a detailed review of land use plans and current land use status.
  • Accurately forecast future transportation demand.
  • Propose the appropriate scale of construction and investment timing to report to the City.

Currently, Hanoi operates five main bus stations: My Dinh, Giap Bat, Nuoc Ngam, Yen Nghia, and Gia Lam. Besides the project in Thuong Tin, the city is also developing the Yen So bus station and preparing to invest in the Dong Anh bus station – a project expected to be the largest in the system, with Van Thuan Holdings as the investor.

According to Decree 307/2025, Hanoi, along with Ho Chi Minh City, are two special-category provincial-level administrative units in Vietnam, requiring synchronized infrastructure investment to keep pace with urban development.
