Hanoi is ready for the 10th grade entrance exam.

On May 29th, over 120,000 students across Hanoi arrived at examination centers to complete the procedures for the entrance exam to 10th grade in public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year. Many parents arrived early to bring their children to the exam sites, offering encouragement before what is considered the most stressful exam of the junior high school level.

Exam centers are ready to support students taking the 10th grade entrance exam.

At examination centers throughout Hanoi , preparations have been meticulously carried out. Areas for posting examination room lists and candidate numbers have been carefully and thoughtfully arranged.

At the examination center at Pham Hong Thai High School (Giang Vo, Hanoi), Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Deputy Head of the examination center, said: "Up to now, at this examination center, we have fully prepared the facilities to serve all candidates. From the examination rooms being cleaned, to ensuring each candidate has their own desk and is spaced out according to regulations."

All examination rooms were properly posted with candidate lists, in accordance with regulations, and were fully prepared. Regarding stationery and other conditions, under the direction of the Department of Education and Training, the Hanoi City People's Committee, and especially the Steering Committee in Giang Vo ward, with close coordination from forces such as electricity, environment, security, and order, the preparation for the exam was fully ensured, resulting in a safe and serious examination. In addition, the examination site had school medical staff, and also received support from medical officers from Giang Vo ward assigned by the ward's Steering Committee.”

At the exam site at Cau Giay High School, Ms. Ngo Thi Hong Lien, Head of the exam site, said: “Today, our exam site has basically completed all preparations. This morning, we have gathered 100% of the staff to carry out tasks at the exam site, including supervisors, invigilators, and those working on specialized inspections; all are present.”

"Up until now, all examination rooms have had enough candidates, and they arrived strictly according to regulations; they seem quite confident. A few rooms are missing one or two students, possibly due to lateness or other reasons we haven't compiled yet, but the number isn't significant."

The competition for admission to public high schools continues to be fierce.

Besides thorough preparation for the exam, the competitive pressure to get into public high schools in Hanoi continues to be a topic of great concern for many parents and students.

At the end of the registration period for the 2026 public high school entrance exam, statistics showed that the total number of participating candidates was 123,467, reaching a participation rate of 99.50%, with 615 absent. The number of exam centers was 224, the number of non-specialized rooms was 5,300, and the number of staff, teachers, and employees present was 17,803, reaching a participation rate of 99.93%.

Speaking with reporters from the Vietnam Law Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, Deputy Head of the examination center and Principal of Pham Hong Thai High School, said: “This year, Pham Hong Thai High School has 504 candidates in 21 examination rooms. The competition ratio for admission to the school is approximately 1 in 2 , an increase compared to last year's public high school entrance exam.”

In recent years, the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi has consistently been considered one of the most competitive in the country. While the number of junior high school graduates increases year by year, the number of places available in public high schools remains limited, especially in central areas.
