The news that the Nguyen Ninh sticky rice cake brand has to temporarily cease operations, released this afternoon, January 2nd, 2025, has surprised many people.
Accordingly, the Nguyen Ninh sticky rice cake brand (with its sole address at 11 Hang Than Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi ) will have to temporarily cease operations to rectify a series of violations related to food hygiene and safety.
An unannounced inspection by Hanoi's Inter-agency Food Safety Team No. 1 of Nguyen Ninh, considered the number one brand for sticky rice cakes in Hanoi, revealed that the production area of this facility was repurposed from a family's living kitchen, lacking separate zones, haphazardly arranged, and in a state of serious disrepair.

Notably, the toilet was located right next to the food preparation area. Insects and animal droppings were also found in the production area. In addition, the labels on the rice cakes did not comply with regulations on product labeling and did not match the product declaration.
Initially, samples of two products, sticky rice cakes and mung bean cakes, will be taken for quality standard testing.
Reporters from the Industry and Trade Newspaper observed at 11 Hang Than Street late this afternoon that customers were still coming and going to buy products from the store.
Authorities will continue to assess the actual food safety level of the Nguyen Ninh sticky rice cake brand, but even now it is clear that this leading sticky rice cake brand in Hanoi, which has spanned three centuries, has been severely affected and may even face a long-term boycott from consumers.

Originally a small shop selling sticky rice cakes located at the top of Hang Than slope, the Nguyen Ninh brand has spread throughout the historic Hang Than street, with many shops imitating the Nguyen Ninh name, creating a street that almost exclusively sells one product: sticky rice cakes, catering to the diverse consumer needs of Hanoians and people from provinces and cities across the country.
However, the authenticity and quality of sticky rice cakes sold in shops on Hang Than Street have long been neglected, and the intervention of Hanoi's authorities to accurately determine the quality of this product is timely and necessary, albeit somewhat belatedly.
According to some consumers, the quality of Nguyen Ninh sticky rice cakes has recently deteriorated significantly, completely failing to live up to the standards of a beloved brand. The ingredients are no longer of the same quality as before, the cakes crumble easily and are too sticky, and are prone to mold shortly after purchase, especially in humid weather.
It is clear that after the temporary suspension of operations, the Nguyen Ninh sticky rice cake brand will need a lot of time to regain its image and reputation if it wants to continue to exist as a leading gift brand, OCOP product, and consumer brand in Hanoi.
