Hanoi has turned cold, with temperatures dropping to only 19-20 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, this morning, October 23rd, a reinforced cold air mass has moved into the North, intensifying the thin cold air mass that had already swept down since October 19th, causing many areas to become noticeably colder than in previous days, with mountainous regions experiencing freezing temperatures.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, the new cold air mass is causing strong northeasterly winds, cloudy skies, and light rain in Hanoi and the northern delta region.

In Hanoi, from the night of October 22nd to the morning of October 23rd, there was light rain and strong northerly winds, causing the temperature to drop rapidly.

Early this morning, many Hanoi residents had to wear thicker warm clothes when going out, and rush hour traffic at the city's gateways was affected by slippery roads and cold winds. Temperatures in central Hanoi areas like Hoan Kiem dropped to just 19 degrees Celsius at 7 a.m.

Temperature monitoring stations in the Northern Delta region, such as Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh), Phu Ly (Ninh Binh), and Hai Duong ( Hai Phong ), all recorded temperatures of 18-19 degrees Celsius.

In mountainous areas, temperatures are significantly lower; for example, at 7:00 AM this morning, the To Hieu weather station (Son La) recorded 17 degrees Celsius, while the Tan Phong station ( Lai Chau ) recorded only 14 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorological experts, the weather in Northern Vietnam today is divided into two distinct halves. The Northwest region, including Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, and Tuyen Quang, will experience dry weather with light sunshine, cool nights and early mornings due to its high altitude, but warming up quickly during the day. The rest of Northern Vietnam, including Hanoi, will be directly affected by the cold air mass and wind convergence, resulting in overcast skies, light drizzle, and low temperatures throughout the day.

The cold air mass is also affecting central Vietnam as Typhoon No. 12 has weakened into a low-pressure area, with its circulation combining with the cold air mass to create a strong wind convergence zone. Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces are experiencing light rain, with increased rainfall along the coast of Nghe An. From Ha Tinh to Da Nang, rain will increase this afternoon and tonight and may continue for several days.

Meteorological experts predict that the cold air mass will continue to maintain its intensity tomorrow, October 24th, but will then gradually weaken. Temperatures in the North will rise slightly from October 25th onwards, and the weather will return to a cooler, more pleasant state after the first cold spell of the season.
